HM booked!

I booked our hotel back in July, but I booked our flights on Friday afternoon!  We're going to Bora Bora the first week of August.  I'm so excited!

  • Luvbug--yes, we booked through Air Tahiti Nui.  Air France did end up having a flight one of the days that we were flying, but they were almost $800 more pp.  Yikes!

  • We're staying at Le Meridien in Bora Bora (it was just remodeled).  We actually got REALLY lucky with the hotel and got a great deal through StarFriends (Starwood hotel chain friends and family program...we're getting married at a Sheraton, and I asked our coordinator that worked there if she would be okay to approve a rate for us that I had found).  So for the over water bungalow, we're paying about $450/night instead of the $800+/night rate that they're charging through their normal website for the same week.

I plan on getting the new Tahiti and French Polynesia Guide by Jan Prince (just came out at the end of November)...another knottie recommended it on this board.

Unfortunately we're going at pretty much their peak season, but there are a lot of airfare deals if you plan on going in the off season (air tahiti nui website has specials on their website for about November-March).

It was cheapest for us to book everything on our own because of the hotel deal that we got, but a lot of times, you can get breakfast included (which could be a huge money saver).  I called Costco Travel and AAA to get additional price quotes and both would've saved a lot of money if we were planning on staying elsewhere.

We looked at multiple travel agents.  It was interesting to me that they could be so different! One travel agent gave me a flight option that wasn't even available...lol we obviously did not go with him!!

We were very close to booking with Costco because they had the best deal by far, but we ended up going with a travel agent for a little more since we were able to get better insurance (which is important to us because my fiance is undergoing treatment right now), but otherwise we would have happily gone with costco.  Here's our itinerary:

-one night in Intercontinental Tahiti (there are intercontinentals at all three islands so sometimes you can get a deal if you stay at two or more throughout your stay)
-3 nights at hilton Moorea in a deluxe gargen bungalow with plunge pool.  We watned to save the overwater bungalow for Bora Bora
-5 nights in Bora Bora at Intercontinental Thalasso.  We chose it for it's location (amazing views of Mt. Otemanu) and the size of the bunglaws.
***breakfast is included in Moorea and breakfast/dinner included in Bora Bora

My recommendation is check all your options.  As Ally mentioned, sometimes you can get a killer deal and it is best to book on your own!  I am absolutely jealous of that overwater bungalow price!!  And also talk to a few agents.  It takes some time, but with a trip this expensive, it is best to do your research.

Oh and check out Trip Advisor travel boards....it helped me a lot!!

    Good luck and happy planning!!!
