Where are my European Honeymooners at?

FI and I are going to Germany in April for our honeymoon. We'll go to Poland to tour Aushwitz, also. Is anyone else bucking the trend of Caribbean vacations?

If you've been to Germany, do you have travel tips?

LOL caribbean HMs and vacations aren't a trend-they've always been :)
I've been to europe quite a few times but not for HM.
do you plan on stopping in czech on the way to or from auschwitz from germany?

I have been to Germany twice, but not for my HM. I guess you can say that I bucked the trend a bit, though, and didn't go to the Caribbean for my HM! Anyway, whre are you going within Germany?Where you go may depend on the tips given I traveled throughout Bavaria and also through the Rhine region. One general tip if you are doing any driving- be sure to stay right and pass to the left on the autobahns. I picked up my Bimmers over there on Euro Delivery and thought I was flying at 140 mph, but cars going 200 snuck up me quick and you best get out of their way :)

We are going to Southern Europe for our HM. Hopefully we will go to Portugal, Spain, south of France and Italy. We get bored easily and live a 3 hr drive from nice beaches so we knew Caribbean was not for us. I have never been to Germany so no advice there.

I would highly recommend visiting Schloss Neuschwanstein (the cinderella-looking castle). I also absolutely loved Munich, which is also in Bavaria, so you can do a day trip to Neuschwanstein from there. PM me if you have more questions, I've been to Germany twice and lived there for a month.

My FI and I are thinking of going to Scotland for our honeymoon! I'm not a beach person and although I've been to the Caribbean before, I've never imagined myself going to the beach on my honeymoon. My parents went to London for their honeymoon, so maybe I got it from them! My FI's family - serious beach people - are aghast, though.

Having a layover in the Frankfurt airport is the extent of my experience with Germany, but I visited Poland a year and a half ago and saw Auschwitz and Birkenau (they're right across the little town from each other). It's not an easy day, but it is absolutely worth visiting.

We're going to Sicily for a week.

OP, Germany is lovely. If you're in Bavaria I would recommend Freiburg on the edge of the Black Forest. It's a really nice little medieval town with a gorgeous cathedral and uniquely, tiny little canals running water through the streets.

I've been to both! If the OP is driving, I do not recommend driving within the walls of RodT. Lots of one way streets and very narrow. I stayed overnight there and parked my car on the side of the road, then had trouble turning around to get out. Everyone was staring and pointing at me! LOL

Germany is a wonderful place to visit. I go to Frankfurt for work often and I have really enjoyed my time there--although i wouldnt recommend visiting (Frankfurt that is!)! I enjoyed Cologne very much as that is where my soon to be maiden name is from--kleinen meaning little in german. I loved Berlin and Munich as well. Take a fat tire bike tour while there and you will get to see a large part of the city. If you want to make the trip, Brussels is very beautiful as well --HELLO! CHOCOLATE ;) and Mastricht (Netherlands/Flanders) is also very nice.

In regards to language, i speak a little German, although you will only need it when you go into a small german pub, and a spec of French. I havent had a problem in either country though with finding someone to assist me in ordering food etc. EXCEPT in Antwerp where the Flemish drama is still very present :) and i dont speak any dutch!

We are honeymooning in Amsterdaam as well as Paris. I travel a large amount for work and these two cities are my absolute favorites! I also have enjoyed Cinque Tierra (North Western Italy), Florence, Interlaaken and London... All are very romantic and wonderful.

Oh and also, I would LOVE to see Neuschwanstein but we will not be near there I'm afraid :(

We're spending 3 nights in Palermo and 4 in Agrigento. We want to keep things simple and low-key, but we'll have a couple of day trips to nearby areas as well.
