Thailand in June?

Has anyone been to Thailand in June or July? My FI and I are planning on going mid June to early July and have been reading that this is the beginning pf their rainy season. We don't want to be somewhere where it will rain non-stop and are wondering if anyone has been to Thailand during this time?

I know that in the Caribbean it sometimes rains really hard for a few minutes or an hour and then the sun comes out for the rest of the day. Is it like that or is it rainy and dark all day?

Re: Thailand in June?

  • I've been to Thailand in June before.  I don't think it rained at all, but I have freakily good luck when it comes to vacation weather.
  • We always go to Thailand during the rainy season. Normally get very little rain and when it does rain it is normally in the morning or evening. The good thing is that it is still really warm so you can still swim, enjoy a massage etc. One of the most experience I have had was getting caught in a rain storm on the way back from a national park. We were on a scooter and got drenched and the locals were laughing their a## off at us, slowing down their cars to point and joke around. We went about an hour away from the resort and it had been super sunny and hot all morning and then boom non stop rain for about 40mins! By the time we got back to the resort I was dry again!
  • Now that I think about it, it did rain for one day when we were in Phuket during a July. Oh, and it sprinkled in Hua Hin in a June.  As J mentioned, the rains often don't last for long (although they are often torrential while they are happening).
  • I was in Thailand all of this past June.  There were some wicked thunderstorms a few evenings, but otherwise the rain was quite minimal.  After I left, though -- July was really rough (and ultimately led to the recent floods).

If you're headed to the beach, the rain also varies by which coast you're on.  The Gulf side is thought to be drier than the Andaman Sea side during the summer months.
