#1 Worry: Plated Dinner for Uninvited Guests

Hello, I'm so excited to be a part of the Knot Community and have a feeling I will be spending lots of time on this site over the next year planning my wedding. I've just begun the planning process and one thing keeps worrying me. What to do if uninvited guests show up to your wedding and you are having a plated dinner. From my research so far, I have to get the dinner selections in advance for the venue and indicate on the table somehow what each guest is having. So what if I was unaware of a guest. Do I still need to feed them? I'm really worried about this happening and how to properly deal with the situation. I truly hope I don't have to deal with it because I just want to enjoy our special day and not deal with anything annoying. Would it be wrong if the person just doesn't get fed since they were not invited since there was no way for me to provide information about them to the caterer? Would I have to pay extra to the caterer for these uninvited people? Should I have someone in my bridal party or a day of coordinator look out for these types of situations and handle it for me?

I couldn't find specific answers to this in the forums I searched so if you know of another discussion for this topic on the Knot, please let me know too.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

    Welcome!

You're not obligated to feed people who weren't invited in the first place, but most caterers will make a bit extra for incidents like that. I wouldn't worry about it too much As far as extra fees go, check with whomever you book for catering what their policy is. :)

Thanks Aileene. I will definitely do that then and try to stop worrying about this so much. Smile

I work at a hotel that does lots of banquets. They usually make atleast 2 or 3 extra of each plate in case something gets dropped or burned or something. Hopefully, you won't have any unexpected guests, but don't worry too much about it.

I definitely wouldn't worry about uninvited guests having a plate. I know that I had the same concern when I was planning the final numbers, but after talking to my catering manager she told me not to worry about it that they would make enough food regardless just in case. HTH :)

    Welcome and Happy Planning!

To answer your question, i dont think you will have to worry about food for the uninvited guests. The chef at my venue told me... we will NOT run out of food! They always make a little extra, so no worries.
