Publix cake?

Anyone used Publix for their cake and want to share your experience? We are thinking of using them, simply because they are probably cheaper. I've heard some good things, some bad. We want a fairly simple cake, probably white or yellow cake with buttercream frosting. No elaborate details or anything. I've heard good things about some of the local cake shops (we are in Altamonte Springs), but I'm sure they are more pricey. Thoughts?

My best friend and MOH used Publix and she said they were expensive. She did have a square shaped cake and if I'm not mistaken it was more than 2 tiers.

According to my planner, Publix is not always the cheapest to go through. However, she did tell me that if you just tell publix what you want, without mentioning that its a for a wedding, they will make it much cheaper. Just by saying "wedding cake" they can add addiitonal expenses to it.

My friend used the same planner and for her cake, she odered seperate circle sheet cakes and told them how she wanted them, then the planner stacked the cakes for her, and added fresh flowers for the decor.

i think my FI and i are going to do the same thing because we love the taste of their cakes, but i dont want to spend extra.

My sister in law just got married a few weeks ago. She used publix for her wedding cake, two teirs, square shape, and it had some type of design on the buttercream and ribbon. However, it was a buttercream cake, not fondet, but she did get to have different flavors and fillings. It was a really nice looking wedding cake. Pricing was awesome, served 80-90 people I believe and it was under $500. Tasted amazing. I think it really depends on the publix as well as what you are ordering.

We are in the process now of researching, and publix has been the cheapest for us so far. We have a three tier cake, very simple, I wanted butter cream frosting, and it will serve 175 people. I particularly like publix cakes, and I want a very simple cake, no exotic flavors or icings, just a plain old regular cake.

The one thing to make sure of, is ask if that particular publix will be making your cake. Apparently some publix's outsource their cakes and they come in from somewhere else, so make sure your location are the actual ones making the cake. For us, one publix admitted they wont be the ones baking it, so we are looking at another nearby publix. Hope this helps!

    Good Luck!

we're using publix because it's a destination wedding and we won't be able to have a tasting beforehand. i used to buy publix baked goods a lot when i lived in florida, so i'm happy with our choice.

you can often google "publix coupon" and find one for their bakery (i think it's $20 off or something like that).

I have used Publix in the past for other events and I absolutely love their cakes...
They are so fresh and yummy, and yes I do believe and have experienced having to pay much less for their cakes.

I recomend Cut the Cake in Longwood, they are some the cheapest and better tastings ones we did. We are going with Cupcake Crazy as of today though because though slightly expensive, we went for flavor like pp mentioned.

I do love publix cake they are one the best I think out there, but wanted something a little fancier for wedding.

You can never go wrong with a Publix cake! They ALWAYS taste so good! I'm not at that stage of my planning yet, but my FI and I want cupcakes, so we are probably going to go to a place that specializes in that. GOOD LUCK! :)

Publix does have some great cake but they do charge as well. That is why we decided to buy the cupcake 6 teir and doing a cupcake theme with a top circular cake with wedding topper. We are puting lights inside the middle, adding a  gold liner on row surface, adding vines with the same flower decor on our tables. Each row will be done in different flavors. We are even adding a sugar-free cupcake row for dibetics to enjoy as well. Each cupcake will be placed in gold foil cupcake holder with a cute decor toping per flavor; i.e., oreo cupcake will have vanilla icing with chocolate shavings on top. We are going to have a sign stating each rows flavor for our guest.  Luckily, I have friends with all the decoration kits and loves to bake. The whole wedding cupcake theme will be less than a hundred to do, and your guest has a variety to choose from.

You should check it out by searching wedding cupcakes online, or do it yourself wedding cakes if you and your friends enjoy baking. It saves you hundreds in the long run. Just a suggetion. Laughing

time is money too. you gotta weigh all the costs associated with DIY projects (money, time, stress, etc.). i'll pay a little more to have someone else make and deliver a cake for me. my goal is to do as little as possible on my wedding day.

Yes, I do agree it takes time and no one wants to do more on their wedding day, and so if you do not have friends who is skilled in that department then buying out is better. That is why I suggested it as a thought if friends are willing to chip in, they are skilled it would be a wonderful wedding gift to the bride and groom. Plus, it saves money, friends feel great because they are apart of your special day. Shared stories of preparing for that day will be shared years to come. Plus, it is fun going out and shopping together. I know the girls and I are having a blast. However, just because it works for one person does not mean it will work for another.

Myself, it works out wonderful because I am lucky enough to have friends who are all donating their time to do this as a wedding gift to us. Each one of them is skilled professionally in the department they're handing. It is always important that the person that does whatever has the skills and training. I personally have a person who bakes, one who does flowers and sew, another who caters, and one of my friends brother takes photo's. This is what they are professionally skilled in and has/or had a business in. So, for myself, there would be less stress, and I can still enjoy my day. They are doing all the work as a wedding gift for us. I am just paying for the cost of supplies. That is the best wedding gift they could have given us.
I do understand this is not workable for everyone and that is why it is importnat to check all avenues out. Each individual is different, and thought must go into each area of decision before leaping. That is why suggestions are good; it opens the doors to other avenues one might not of thought of before.

Congrats to all you brides out there on you special day. Smile
