Need Cruise Suggestions!

Help!  We need suggestions for a honeymoon cruise!  Neither my FI or I have been on a cruise, but we have been dying to try one.

We would like to go somewhere to relax, snorkel, lay on the beach/at the pool, watch dinner shows, etc. as opposed to "partying".  I've looked through the board and it sounds like a lot of people like Royal Caribbean, but I would love any suggestions you have about different cruise lines/locations to travel.  Also, if you know of any travel agents you've worked with, that would be awesome too!

We have a $4000 budget (including airfare).

Re: Need Cruise Suggestions!

  • I agree with what pp said and also have some advise to be warry of lol

I've been on many cruises and I found a Disney cruise around the Panama canal. 14 days and thought this is the sweetest cruise ever and it's Disney! I told my Mom my idea and she warned me that since my fiance has never been on a cruise, going on a 14 day may be risky as we don't know (nor does he) how he would react. Some people can get really sea sick or claustrophobic.

Not saying you shouldn't go on one! Maybe opt for a shorter cruise (5 day) or go on a very short and cheap cruise before hand to try it out (that was my Moms advise)

Oh and also maybe even try the Pacific side if you are dead set on being south. It's more breeze and less humid. Also less hurricanes (but there are still tropical storms)

FI and I have done two cruises together, and I've done 2 more with family.  Our latest cruise we went on last year (late August) was out of San Juan via Carnival.. we were on a different island every day (St. Thomas, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, St. Maarten, Barbados, and Dominica).  So relaxing..  we scuba, rode ATVs through a rainforest, whatever you could DREAM of we did.  Weather was high 80s, low 90s.  And had a blast!  Our bdays are a week apart so this was our bday gift to each other.  We stayed in the grande suite as well.  We did all of this for $4300 (just a tad over your budget), but definitely something to consider.

Carnival is considered the "party" boat, but honestly there were so many couple activities we did; great (and endless amounts) of food.  Royal Carribean boats are more "lush" very upscale (as opposed to Carnival), I did this cruise with my family.  I hear Disney cruises are fun for families, so there will be many kids.  I would recommend Carnival.

Good luck!  I'm sure what ever cruise you decide you and your FI will have a blast!!

  • For your honeymoon I would highly suggest Celebrity or Princess over Carnival and Royal Caribbean. Don't get me wrong, Carnival and RC are amazing, but Celebrity and Princess are a step above in terms of service and class which it sounds like you're looking for on your HM. I've also only heard incredible things about Disney cruises. Yes, it's Disney, but they have great adult only areas on their ships and it's Disney so you know the service and the ship itself will be amazing.

I wouldn't worry about hurricane season, as the ship will go a different course to avoid inclement weather. I've cruised twice in August and have never had an issue with weather (always sunny, never rained/stormed). Yes, it's hot, but as long as you stay hydrated and go to the pool or the beach at the hottest points of the day you'll be fine.

Nshivers - I'd love to hear more about your San Juan via Carnival trip. My FI & I just booked that for September for our HM. If you have any recommendations on excursions, that would be great.

    Thanks!
