    I would say do a duel one but even on invites places gifts are not neccessary. Just make it about having a party celebrating your engagement with the family.

    This could be challenging to decline, but perhaps you could say something to the effect of not wanting to take away from the excitement of the newly engaged couple.  That said, if you think it will cause tension with your FMIL, I would just grin and bear it.  GL!

    Maybe you could politely explain that you feel like you're past the time frame for engagement party since you're almost 1/2 way between your engagement & the wedding at this point. Good luck!

    I agree with Maggie. I mean has she asked SIL if she was okay with it in the first place. I mean tyour SIL might get mad at you guys because "your stealing her thunder " even though mom is the one doing it. Personally I would just tell mom that and say you have already told everyone about the wedding and don't need an engagement party but thanks for the offer.
