AI and Diving

So we just started looking at honeymoon stuff, even though we have a ton of time to plan. We like the idea of an AI where we don't have to worry about anything and can relax and have a good time. I'm PADI Scuba certified, and Fi is interested in getting certified too so we'll have another thing we can do together. When I was checking out AI I read that Sandals has a great diving program where you can actually get certified at the resort. Has anyone done this or have any exsperience with this? I noticed AIs are pretty popular on here, so I'm expecting some good feedback :)

  • I've never been to an AI, but we were considering Sandals when we were researching because they are the only major AI that included unlimited diving.  I'm sure you probably would have to pay a certain amount for your FI to get certified, but if you do it early in your trip, then you get the rest of the time to dive together.

  • I would say just make sure his certification would be through a reputable agency like PADI or NAUI so that he can use it again after the HM.

  • Yes, it is a PADI cert program. Glad to get a little feedback. The only thing I'm really concerned about is that he's had 2 back surgeries for bulging disks and he has weight restrictions on his lifting. I know there are lots of people out there that dive that have different health restrictions, and I think with a few modifications, it's totally possible, but I would want to make sure the instruction team would be willing to work with us on that . It may mean I carry his gear forever, but I knew that after a few dates that I was going to have to make adjustments for his back for as long as we were together...and after not long I realized that would be forever...but he's SO worth it.
