Does the cost of these alterations sound right?

I had my dress fitting yetsterday and the total was $395.

I was a bit shocked but wanted to know if all of you think I am paying to much. I will break down what's being done.

-Bra cups being sewn in-$20

-Hem bottom and crinoline (the dress has lace at the bottom,so it is not the average hem)-$150

-French Bustle-$125

-Adjust top and add boning to the side seams-$100

I feel like this is a lot,Is it worth it for me to take it from the bridal shop, eat $50, and get it altered somewhere else?

It would be cheaper elsewhere but I don't recommend it.  I had mine altered at another location that was recommended and had a horrible experience and ended up having to pay for it to be altered twice.  If I could do  it over, I'd have just gone with the bridal shop and paid more money.

I guess my fear is taking it from the bridal shop,I know they will steam and press it as well which is nice. Its also kind of weird because the alterations lady is contracted and not really a part of the bridal shop. I'm just not sure what to do.

[QUOTE]Where was that at? Have you considered using Jeanine?

It is at Something Blue Bridal, I just had the first fitting yesterday. I was like I know the dress is quite a bit bigger at the top,but c'mon.

I have heard good things about Jeanine, but I would love to see someones dress who has been done by her,and hear some more details.

I got quotes from David's Bridal on Friday.  They are going to add a corset back for $120, a hem for $120 and a french bustle for $50.  They did say that the french bustle on my dress is easier than a lot of other dresses so I lucked out with that one.  I've heard one review about Jeannine and heard that the bustle was uneven.  For the sake of piece of mind, I'm spending the extra money and having them done by David's Bridal so i have some recourse if they screw it up.

I bought my dress from Ebay so I didn't go to a bridal salon to get it altered. I used Jeanie and long story short, my bustle was effed up. I was a week out from my wedding and didn't have the time to have her re-do it. She kind of had an attitude with me as well. I have the full review in my bio (see siggy link). I know that Alyssa used her and had a really great experience with her though.

I hear david bridal is not that great at alterations, something to think of.  My dress is also from Something Blue Bridal. I haven't decided whether or not to go with their alterationist but I did see a girl who was getting final fitting. They said she was a size 10 bottom and size 2 top so hers originall was very large on top. It fit her like a glove.  In that one case I saw they did great work and seemed all pleasant. The young woman's wedding was Oct. 30 and it was her final fitting that was on tuesday, so 11 days out.

I actually don't think that is that bad. Alterationist costs generally wont cost below $200 and a bridal salon I worked with started at $400.
