Name Change Question

Ok - this may be an odd question...go ahead and throw the stones if you must! :)

FI and I are planning on going on our honeymoon directly after the wedding.  I don't have a passport as of right now.  Someone at work suggested changing my name before the wedding so that I didn't have to re-order a passport and I know it takes a while to get this done.  Everything I look at for name changes says that I need a marriage license.  Has anyone heard or thought of doing this?  If so, is there a way to do it without a marriage license?

if you book all of your tickes and  hotles and stuff in your last name you have now you will be fine.  ones you get back you need to send it out. just keep in mind that its less if with in one yr of your isshe date.

That is a terrible idea. Do not do that.  It will cost you a ton of money and I believe you need some sort of court order to get it changed.   It's free when you change it after you get married.

Put your maiden name on your passport and the next time you travel out of the country AFTER your honeymoon, you can get it changed.  It'll be less hassle.

The only way to change your name without the marriage license is through a court order.  Definitely not worth the extra cost and hassle.

Go ahead and apply for your passport in your maiden name and book all the tickets and reservations with that name.  There's no charge to get a change your passport if you get married and change your name within one year of the issue date of the passport.  (You just mail it in, and they add an amendment with your new name)  If its more than one year after the issue date, you have to get a new passport and pay the renewal fee ($75)

    HTH!
