IDK what I'm doing. Completely CLUELESS. Venues. PLEASE HELP!

We're paying for our own wedding. He's Military so we have to get married soon, before he goes into officer training in the next yr or 2. We were going to do a small 15 person wedding @ Shades of Green this yr. Thats when the madness began. Most of our families are in N.C. & mine in P.R., we have some in N.Y./N.J. So then we changed it to N.C. but my family had a fit. Then we thought P.R. but then his family had a fit. Now we have no clue what we're doing. I got my very expensive couture dress on SALE ($500 total I GOT LUCKY!) My friend that is a baker @ Disney is making my cake & we have 3 friends that are photographers offering to do our pics pro bono. We don't have much $. My uncles are offering to help but I keep getting told that its not right to have anyone pay for themselves. I need to decide on a venue so I know EXACTLY how much to save but just have X amount of $'s on the side for a wedding. Can anyone help please? I've been getting really snappy @ the poor Fiance & asking him to just ELOPE!

What kind of venue are you looking for? There are many gardens in the Central FL area that have "intimate wedding" pacakges available at a small rate.

Honestly, I would just stick with the original plan of Shades of Green...though I may be biased, because that's where I'm getting married ;) My FI is in the military as well, and we're also paying for our own wedding, and my family is in NY, so it took them a little while to get used to the idea, but they came around. SOG is gorgeous, and you can't beat the prices, especially paying for it yourself!!

Just think of it as a destination wedding for your guests.  If they really want to come, they will find a way.  I agree with the others to stick with SOG.  I have been to a wedding there and it is quite nice.

Shades of Green is a very beautiful place to have the wedding, plus it is military friendly. It seemed like everything was pretty worked out but because of family you started to second guess yourself. Just keep in mind you can't please everyone that is coming, that unless everyone lives in the same town people are going to have to travel. As long as you and FI are happy that is all that matters.

I too believe that this is your wedding, the two of you should do what you want to do. Your guests will show up because they know this is important to you. You can't try to make everything convenient for everyone because then you will start to feel like it is THEIR big day instead of YOUR big day. My fiance and I promised to stay focused on why we are getting married instead of letting small things complicate our day. I know someone who eloped in Vegas and then promised a reception for the families at a later date when things were easier for them. You could always do that too. Just talk with your hubby to be and figure out what's the most important to the two of you.

you're looking at it backwards. you need to set your budget first, it helps keep your planning focused and under control. figure out how much you can afford to put aside for the wedding and go from there. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />

    This.

Also, you said your uncles are offering to help.. but then you say its bad ettiquette to have anyone pay for themselves.  I think it al depends on what "help" means.  If they are saying "I'll cover how much it costs for me" then, yeah, that's bad ettiquette.  If they are saying "I have a couple hundred dollars I would like to gift you to help with your wedding costs" then that is a totally different story.  When I got engaged my aunt gifted me $1000, my grandmother gifted me another $1000, and my mother gifted me $5500.  They were not "paying their way" they were giving what they could because they wanted to contribute to the wedding.  Two very different things, I think.

    Best of luck!!  =)

Oh, I just realized you're the poster from the ettiquette board!  I actually almost commented on your other post to go with shades of green.. I recommend that.. they have wonderful deals for military weddings!

Not familiar with shades of green but if you're getting married in the Orlando area and are having a small intimate group of people, I recommend 310 Lakeside in downtown Orlando.  You have a wonderful ceremony out on Lake Eola and then have the reception inside 310.  They have a large private room in the back so you would have enough space for tables and a dance floor.  Packages can be completely customized and start at just $27 per person.  I had my engagement party there and it was amazing.  Hillary is great!  To give you an idea on price, we had 45 people. We provided appetizers (bruschetta and spinach/artichoke dip) as well as choice of soup or salad and choice of an entree (with the most expensive entree being filet so we paid a bit more).  We were able to also bring in our own cake.  And a champagne toast for everyone was included.  The total price was right around $2300.  Keep in mind though that included $700 worth of alcohol.  If you wanna keep costs down, dont include alchohol and limit the number of guests.  You could have a beautiful wedding at 310 and the price is super reasonable and the service is great.  Check them out online and good luck!
