How should I select a travel agent?

Do they charge?  Is it worth it to get one?  How do I find a good one?  Thx

i got a bunch of recommendations from others and we went with Jennifer at VIP.  www.travelbyvip.com
They charge nothing to use them, and are really great with honeymoons, plus I trusted her opinion and totally didn't want to worry about anything so I am relieved that she took care of all the details!

I also asked around but am using VIP!  I found something on expedia and they got me the same rate!

I HIGHLY rec Elise with Beach Bum Vacation! The way I found her was by rec. from here 3 years ago when I was planning my HM... But I used someone else in the company(Steve, who was also great!) But we had some problems during our honeymoon and Steve was out of town and Elise helped us resolve those issues and was AMAZING to work with and we have kept in touch since... now she just booked our anniv. trip and she is just awesome!

Thats the great thing about a travel agent! You tell them length of time, budget, and what specifics youre looking for and they send you resorts that fit your ideas! That is what Elise just did for me

I did tons of research and am the total research queen and I found Nancy from www.myislandgetaways.com on this board and the DW board . She was worth her weight in gold and got us tons of perks and literally saved our behinds in so many situations

There are a lot of rec's for online agents. We found ours by going to the local bridal shows in the area (if you have that option). That way you can talk to them in advance, etc.

Heramber, why is it when I search your posts you only slam TA's and VIP?  In fact you only show posts slamming this company.  It's a little obvious.  Might want to get a new user name because apparently theknot won't even tally up your posts anymore...they keep saying you have NONE and in good old knottie language that means you yourself have been deactivated.

If you're interested in a cruise, Sue at A Cruise For You! specializes in cruises.  She has been really helpful -- we're planning a group cruise to the Caribbean/Central America for this summer and a honeymoon cruise to the Mediterranean with her.
