Has anyone checked out English Gardens? What is the area like? Were you impressed?

I briefly looked at them. Meh. They're stuck in a business-y, semi-industrial looking area, but it's pretty well self-enclosed, so I don't think you would notice that once you're in the facility. It was just kinda... not *cheap* looking, but some of the details were lacking IMO. Like, the plastic chairs were like typical discount store patio furniture, stuff like that (at least when I was looking at them, they may have upgraded since). What's your budget? You might want to check out Casa Feliz (I'm not biased or anything), Leu Gardens, Polasek Museum, and some of the other garden-y places around town. If you're doing everything on a tight budget, you could probably work it out at a public park like Kraft azalea park or something similar and have the reception at a nearby site. GL

I'm not sure how many people you are expecting, but It's also pretty small.

I should add that my budget is $5k, but I plan to have a morning ceremony, and a hor d'oeuvres type reception.. something easy :) Also, I'm looking at about 100 guests.

After seeing another Knottie post Lake Mary Events Center, I am going to go check that out..

$5k total, or $5k for the venue? If for the venue, then LMEC well within reach, but I can't remember enough about the cost to tell you if it'd work for a $5k total budget. There are definitely lots of pretty spots for a morning hors d'oeuvres wedding around though. :)

Kraft Azalea Gardens and Central Park Rose Garden (which we talked about in my post) both are limited to about 20 people, so those will both be out for you. You *might* be able to do a morning reception with minimal food at LMEC for $5k, but it will probably be a stretch. It will have to be a week day because they don't rent by the hour on Saturday or Sunday. You will really have to keep costs for your dress and invites and stuff down. You might check out Mead Garden also. It was much less expensive and in a pretty spot. There is a rental facility on site also, but I don't remember how expensive it was to rent. I think it's the Winter Park Garden Club. Leu Gardens is also nice, but books up fast. Good luck!
*EDIT* Mead Garden is $225 for 2 hours for the ceremony and holds 200 people.

Thanks ashbosity! I don't mind doing a weekday wedding.. whatever it takes :) I'm going to call tomorrow to set up an apointment to tour.

I already have my dress (my mother in law paid for it) and my sister-in-law is a graphic designer so she's going to do the invites..

The only thing I'm worried about is the food cost.. I wish I could do my own catering because I have some really talented chefs in the family!

LMEC is beautiful and was my original venue. If the $5K is for venue, food, flowers, cake, photographer, decor, and officiant you might be able to make it. We were planning an evening wedding for about 100 people with and $8K budget and were pretty much on track, so you should be able to do it. We got some crazy good deals though. I'd suggest you check out Vicki from Peddles florist and look into River City Catering to help save money. They were our vendors and we really able to help us get costs down.

I second Vicki with peddles for florist, I'm using her and couldn't believe how reasonable her quote was and how much she was willing to work with my restricted budget.
