Secrets Resorts

Have decided on a Secrets resort for our January 2014 honeymoon. Now we need to choose a destination and I am not sure how to go about that. We do not want to go to Cancun or Punta Cana but are open to all others. We also do not want a super small resort -- we are early-mid 20s and want something with plenty of restaurants, bars and loungues. I'd say in the past we have split our beach and pool time at AIs so a nice beah as well as great pools would be great. Any reviews from ladies who have stayed at one of these resorts would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

When you say Cancun, do you mean just Cancun or Cancun/Riviera Maya/Cozumel? The RM has some of the best Secrets properties in the chain (Maroma, Capri). Why don't you want to go to those areas? So, if you decide to not go to those areas, you are left with Los Cabos, Jamaica, Puerto Vallarta, and Huatulco. All of the properties are large in size (at least in my opinion), but some are larger than others. Jamaica may be the best fit for you as it's two properties connected by a central restaurant area. Also, in Los Cabos, you can dine at Dreams Los Cabos as well, so that may be of interest. The only issue with Los Cabos, is that many of the beaches there are not swimmable, but they do try to make up for that with nice pools. I've only been to Secrets in the RM area, so no reviews to share. Other than thosein Jamaica, the others I listed are relatively new (they either were converted from a Dreams property or they were converted from another hotel brand.)

FWIW, we went to Secrets Maroma Beach and it was so gorgeous!  The beach is unbeatable, the food was great, and the resort was beautiful.  I guess it could be considered to be "Cancun", as PP said I'm not sure if you're excluding Riviera Maya or not.  I don't have any experience with other Secrets resorts, though I'm sure you can't go wrong.  We were so impressed with the service we received at Secrets, we would definitely go back to SMB or another Secrets resort.  Happy planning, the honeymoon was the most fun part to plan in my opinion

Thanks so much ladies. I am not ompletely excluding the Riviera -- I know I do not want to be in or near downtown Cancun but I am possible open to Riviera. We have just done it so many times so I was hoping for a new location. But in all reality, we never leave the resort except for excursions so I guess a new destination is not really ncessary!!!

I agree with the rec's of Secrets Maroma Beach or Capri.  We HMed at SMB and loved it; we've had friends visit Capri and love it.

OP have you checked the tripadvisor reviews for each and determined if they meet your criteria?
i've not stayed at any of them but hear great things about secrets maroma if that helps
