Evening poll!

How important do you feel it is to provide a menu of your meal, be it printed per person, written on a big sign etc.? Do you prefer guests know what they're eating beforehand or would you rather they be wowed and surprised day of? How do you feel about conga lines/ dance trains? Love em or hate em?

Re: Evening poll!

  • I think it's a nice gesture. I think I'm going to make it in a DIY that way I can save more money on it :) Maybe just have it posted somewhere guests can see as they are coming in?

And I hate conga lines....although everyone does it once your in it...you never know when it should end!

  • I think menus are a good idea but I don't want to spend time/money to print them and they are just one more thing to clutter the table and end up in the way. As far as the conga etc. I am not a fan. I have asked our DJ not to play any group dances like Macarena or Chicken Dance.
  • I like the look of individual menus.  Our venue provides them so we lucked out and don't have to make them ourselves.  I haven't actually been to a wedding that didn't have them.

I hate conga lines!! I always feel so awkward grabbing someone I don't know lol.

  • Won't be doing individual menus. Might be surprised day of, not sure.

I love dance trains, but doubt it will happen.

I think menus are nice, but not entirely necessary, especially if the person has chosen their meal. If they haven't chosen their meal, I feel like they serve more of a purpose, rather than just serving as decoration.

I'm doing a big menu on a chalkboard because I like the way it looks. It'll be at the entry to the dining tent so people can read it while they're filing in. Everyone will have picked their entree ahead of time, so it shouldn't be a major shock (although I'm sure a lot of people will forget what they chose).

As for dance lines and trains . . . Uh, no.

  • I thought about doing menu cards myself but that is just one more check I have to worry about, im not sure yet, conga lines is a no no
  • I'm a little in between with menus. I think the surprise factor is nice, but a big chalkboard sign with the menu written on it isn't bad either. I doubt I'll be wasting my time on individual printed ones though..

I've always hated conga lines/ trains! And I've always felt I've been in the minority about it. I don't know if it's a Latin culture thing or just my family.. but they do it all the time and everyone seems to love it! Gagg! Everybody just kind of looks around at each other in the circle... and you're totally right Roseofdeborah! You never know when you're supposed to stop! Lol
  • I think I'm going to have one menu per table. I like the chalk board idea too. I'm not doing the conga line, but I'm definitely having the electric slide, Cupid shuffle and the wobble. It's a must have. lol
  • We aren't doing menu cards or a menu board...they'll get their meal & belike oohh dang this is so good!! hahaha...

Not into the whole congo line thing...but like hmascine, I'm having the cha cha slide! i love that song and i don't know why! hha
  • Not doing a menu. Everyone with their rsvp will have to pick out their entree choice so i figure not knowing what kind of salad youre beig served and getting wedding cake shouldnt be a big deal or surprise. Its amazing how much all of these printed things cost! One thing Ive definitely learned! it seems you can't have anything printed from placecards to ceremony programs, menus, etc for less than a $1/piece. I'm trying to cut printed material wherever I can, because it's definitely not a detail I've ever remembered from other weddings I have been to.

Not a fan of the conga lines and macarena stuff, even though I do like the YMCA and Shout for some reason :-)

  • We are not doing a menu because we actually had a change of plans for reception.  We have the shelter at our reception venue from 4 pm to 11 pm so we are doing a before wedding reception type thing with food.  Then after our ceremony we are having a cake reception.  Our food is going to be stuff like meat and veggie platters so guest can make their own sandwiches, fruit trays, chicken strips, salads.  Stuff like that.

As for the conga lines... I hate them.  I also hate the chicken dance and FI family says that it has been done at every wedding their family has ever had.  I keep telling him that tradtions have to die somewhere.  Macareana is also a no play!  Cha-Cha Slide is great because the song tells you what to do.  I have never even done the Electric Slide because I don't know it.

  • I've seen quite a few pictures of our venue with menus with the venue's logo on it so I have a feeling they provide them. I can't remember my coordinator mentioning them though so I'm not positive. Our menu selections will be on the RSVP cards like pps mentioned so it's not a huge deal.

Not a fan of conga lines. Loved them when I was a kid though.

  • I am a picky eater and have (real, confirmed!) food allergies so I've always appreciated when I've been able to read what's in a dish before eating it. FI likes the look of menus on table settings, so we are planning to do one per seat.

I used to like all the line/group dances, but I guess I've grown out of that. Now I just like to do my own thing on the dance floor :)

  • How important do you feel it is to provide a menu of your meal, be it printed per person, written on a big sign etc.? Depends what kind of meal your having.  If it's buffet then no I don't think it's important.  If it's sit down and the guests never gave their choices when they RSVP'd then yeah it is important but if it's sit down and they gave their choices and already known what they are having, I think it's a nice idea to have the menu on the tables.
Do you prefer guests know what they're eating beforehand or would you rather they be wowed and surprised day of? I like being wowed and surprised, but I am a pickier eater, especially when it comes to meat.  I will usually find something to eat... even if it is only desert .  We're only asking our guests to choose between chicken and steak and not giving any other hints.

How do you feel about conga lines/ dance trains? Love em or hate em? Like watching, don't like being in them.

I like the look of menus, but we're not doing them. I just can't afford it and since everyone will have already decided on their dinner its not needed. Oh well.

And I know I'm in the minority but I love group dances! All of them. They just have a tendency to get everyone, even people who don't normally dance, up and having fun.

that sounds like a good idea...hmmmm....maybe on the back of the RSVP card?
  • We aren't going to have menus at the reception. It'll be listed on the RSVP cards, guests will pick out what they want when they RSVP. Full menu description will be on our website.

Personally I prefer group dances ONLY because I am able to look stupid with other people and be able to copy their moves. I hate individual dancing because I have no idea what I am doing!!! I can't hear the music and I feel better if other people look silly with me :)

  • Our wedding package includes really, really nice menus printed out for all of our guests. Our napkins will be folded into a square with a pocket in the middle and the menu will be stuck into the middle of that pocket, on top of the charger plate.

I don't think menus are 100% necessary, but I think they are a very nice gesture if you are having a plated meal.  People like to know what is coming and to know what sides they will be receiving with their meal.

The fun thing about our menus is, well, they look really nice (thick cardstock and black borders), but our wedding planner will be incorporating our wedding monogram onto it!

I LOVE the cupid shuffle and the cha cha slide....HATE conga lines/dance trains. I always end up having to put my hands on some sweaty man who I don't know, and I just find them really awkward.

</div><div>Oh no I just meant that they'll have to choose between 'pan seared salmon' and 'double cut pork chop' on the RSVP card so they should remember what they chose. Sorry, I wrote this at like 1 am and probably wasn't very clear, haha.
