need help please

So we are getting married in May and still have yet to book our honeymoon. Yes, we are procrastinators :) We want to go to a beach somewhere that is not terribly crowded, but somewhere that isn't very expensive either. We just bought a house in a couple months ago so we are still getting used to the whole budgeting thing. I really hope you guys can help because I am at a loss :(

Re: need help please

  • Start with a rough budget and how long you want to be gone...

And whether you want to stay in US or go somewhere else.  Then we'll go from there.

  • If you are on a budget cruises and all inclusive resorts may be a good option since they include lodging, food, and provide a lot of enterainment for one flat fee. Tips are also usually included. Just keep in mind that people usully want to do additonal excursions that cost extra.
  • If you want to stay in the US, I'd suggest going to southern Florida.  It'll be nice and toasty on a beach there in May.  If you want to go out of the country, I'd suggest Mexico, Cancun specifically.  We went to the Sun Palace last year.  It's an adult only AI.  Beach wasn't crowded (we went in February).
  • We will more than likely stay in the US. As much as I would love to go to Cancun or Punta Cana or somewhere like that, he doesn't like to fly so our options are kind of limited. I was thinking about drugging him and getting him on the plane ;)
  • What is your budget? Many people say they are on a tight budget but for some people that might mean 1k, for others it means 8-10k. It just depends.

So you want somewhere within driving distance of Cincinnati and how long do you want to be there?

I would say your best bet would be to go to North or South Carolina.

  • I'm also in Ohio...I just did some searching for cruises in May.  There are a number with interior cabins under $300!  The Norwegian $299 ones are for a whole week so airfare would probably be about $400 per person but that's a great deal, in my opinion.  Someone mentioned doing excursions but you can go off the ship and do whatever you want -- shopping, eat, tour the area, without paying for excursions...just make sure you're back in time!

  • Drive north to Mackinac Island in Michigan.  You don't have to stay at the Grand Hotel, which was used in a famous movie called "Somewhere in Time" - but there are plenty of other hotels on the island.
And save your tussle with your non-flying DH for a future vaca.
You'll be so totally exhausted after the wedding that you'll be glad that you stayed close to home instead of spending a bunch of money on a trip that you're too tired to really enjoy.

i'm confused. thre's not much of a difference as far as time goes for flights to fl or dominican repulic or cancun so i wouldn't discount those just because he doesn't li ke to fly. maybe a 30 minute difference wouldn't matter if he'd like the destination more. ask him.

If we went to Florida, we would drive, not fly.
