Favor Help

I was recently asked what I wanted to do about favors and I realized that this was a detail that I have thought nothing about, and the more I look I realize I have no idea. What are some good favor ideas? Some details: Our reception will be a semi-formal evening affair at a golf course. We are having a plated dinner with a cocktail hour beforehand. Our guests will be all ages from my 2 year old daughter (we are going to let guests bring their children if they wish) to grandparents. FI and I, as well as most of my family and friends are drinkers. I don't want to give out knick-knacks that people will hate and I don't want to leave anyone out. Any suggestions would help! thanks :)

Re: Favor Help

  • Do you even want to do favors?  this is something that you don't need to do if you don't want to, but if you do people seem to like edible favors the best.

  • Edible favors are always a good bet. Or something unique to you and your FI

FI and I are doing peppermint pattys with a pink sticker on them with our initial; and some pink and white golf tees personalized with our names and date. FI is a big golfer, and our reception is also at a golf course.

  • We aren't doing one. I don't think they're necessary though. Most weddings I've gone to- I either eat them right away or just take them home with me and leave it under a pile of dust.

If you want to do them- edible ones are always the best.

  • We are doing candy for our favors.

  • We are doing cute little packages of colored macaroons to set at our guest's place settings.

As others have said, edible favors are the most well thought of around here. I have been to too many weddings where I get something tacky that I will just take home and throw away. On saturday, I was at a wedding and got some weird "wine charms"? Fiance thought that they were earrings. I don't think we will ever use them.

Bottom line, don't pick a random token to give to guests just so they can have a "favor" from your wedding. Give them something to eat, or put the money elsewhere.

<div>I suppose we don't need to do them, I was just thinking about the reception table and how I wanted it to look. I guess I have never been to a wedding where they didn't have a favor. We are doing personalized fans at the ceremony (at a different location) because it will be outside in the hot July sun (hopefully!). </div>

  • We are having a candy buffet, so that will be our favor. In the end, it would have been MUCH cheaper to just buy each person a gift lol But I do think it will be pretty and double as decor, too.

  • They aren't necessary, but if you do want to do them, I would go with edible because of all the children.  The only children that will be at ours are mine.  We're doing wine tags because it's mostly a wine themed wedding and it will help everyone keep track of their drinks at the reception as well as be something they can use at home if they want, but I won't be crushed if a lot get left behind. I'll just gather them up and use them myself :)

  • We are doing sweet tea in mini mason jars. Similar to those on this website:

    http://iloveswmag.com/2011/10/12/the-ultimate-southern-mason-jar-finalists-catie-ronquillo-palm-papers/

Edible favors are best and will most likely get used.
  • I know some people don't like it, but we're donating to charity. My father passed away from cancer and I volunteer for St. Jude's so I'm just going to make a donation in their name to St. Jude's and then put up a sign about it near the birdcage card box.

Also, we're having a dessert/candy buffet and we're doing cheesesteaks at the end of the night in cute little Philly wrappers, so I suppose that's kind of a favor, too.

    They really aren't necessary, though.

  • Go edible if you really want to do them.

We're sort of doing two favors. The first is M&M's in tiny jars with personalized lids. Some of the M&M's (but all because it was so expensive) will have our pictures/wedding date on them. We're mostly doing this because I have wanted my face on an M&M for years! The second is our cupcakes. We already get a plated desert so we will be boxing up the cupcakes and they can eat them then or take them home.

  • I am with bridetobe.. we are doing a donation to the Surf Rider Foundation.  It is also a tribute to FI brother who passed away in the fall.  He was an avid surfer and also made his own surfboards so this is a way we are honering him that day.
  • Ok thanks, I will probably look into doing something edible :)
