USA Honeymoons - NO CRUISES

Help!! My fiance and I are trying to find a nice place to go that's pretty local to New Jersey, without it being a cheesy heart-shaped bed-fitted suite or a cruise. We were looking at some ski lodges and places of that nature, but I'm wondering if anyone had any ideas?

Thanks!!

  • What about a nice New England bed and breakfast? Cape Cod or Marthas Vineyard?

  • Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, NY is a beautiful resort. It has great year round activities and sit down breakfasts and dinners are included in the price. Please note that there are no TVs in the room.

You can also try The Woodloch in the Poconos. This is a nice upscale resort and no "heart shaped beds".

    Hth!
  • If you want to stay really close to Jersey, check out New Hope, PA. They have bed and breakfasts, lots of cute little stores and restaurants, and I think there's hiking nearby.

[QUOTE]Ditto the suggestions for Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, or Nantucket. You could also check out Block Island off the coast of Rhode Island. I may have misunderstood what you were saying, but were you grouping cruises in as cheesy or were you just referring to the resorts in the Poconos with heart shaped beds? Cruises are definitely not cheesy, and we always have a blast on cruises as it's one of our favorite ways to travel. The staff treat all guests like royalty, the food is neverending, and you wake up at a different Caribbean island almost every morning. They're also great budget wise.

I think it was pretty clear that she was calling the heart shaped bed resorts cheesy.  She said "or cruises" which led me to believe they were two separate things they didn't want.

  • We're in NJ and have to stay pretty close too. We're staying in Cape Cod, MA. I can't wait! :D
  • Ooh, I will definitely be checking out the Mohonk Mountain - I LOVE New Paltz!

We're actually looking at a B&B (Ashley Manor) on Cape Cod, but we'd be going on our honeymoon the first week in November, so I'm not sure how much there'd be to do other than eat and shop.

And yes, sorry I know the whole cruise thing may have been confusing. I would love to go on a cruise, but my fiance doesn't find beaches all that appealing. Oh well! Maybe another time.
  • How about Montauk on Long Island? It's gorgeous out there.

    No worries ;0)

Not for the HM.. but for future trips.. if your FI isn't big into beaches, and you'd like to check out cruising you should look into a cruise to Alaska or a Mediterranean cruise which are much more centered around site seeing than beach activities.
