looking for any suggestions on where to honeymoon

Any advice would be greatly appreciated....my FI and I can not agree on a place. We want to go somewhere that we have never been before. We have been to the bahamas, aruba, the Domincan, Myrtle Beach, New orleans, Cali, and florida. We were kicking around hawaii & st lucia but not really agreeing on either. I want to go to Hawaii because its probably the only time I can take 2 weeks off from work.....he wants to go to St. lucia because the flight isnt as long.

a little info about us that might help with suggestions:

We will be going for 2 weeks in the middle of may
We are looking for a tropical/beach type place
A pool bar or beach bar would be ideal......I love the water but my FI could take it or leave it .... usually takes it if he can drink there though.
Neither one of us are the museum, artsy, historical sightseeing type
We both love to drink, dance, and meet new people
Even though it is a honeymoon .... we are very social people so want that option of a fun place. ...if we want to be alone we can always stay in the room hehe
I love adventures/excursions but the FI has to be conned into them (usually does them to shut me up & then ends up loving them)
We are paying for it ourselves so there are limits but have enough time to save a decent chunk of money ---- maybe up to $6000 give or take some

Thanks for any help!

  • have you been to Roatan, Honduras?

Relatively inexpensive, beautiful beaches, fantastic sailing (bareboat or charter), good food, snorkling.

Other than the Cathedral in San Pedro Sula (you have to change planes) not a lot of sightseeing.

    How about Costa Rica?
  • No I have never been to honduras or costa rica...thanks I will check them out.
  • I had my heart set on going to St. Lucia for our HM. We decided to take a cruise that went there and boy was I dissappointed. I think it's overrated.

good to know...that might give me more bargaining power haha
  • i agree with costa rica.

yuo may also want to look into cancun/riviera maya for the social aspect. cancun and playa del carmen and even the smaller tulum have some great restaurants and social scene while still having nice resorts, pools, beaches etc.. tons and tons and tons of day trips or just taking the ferry to isla mujeres (from cancun) or cozumel from playa del carmen for the day.

  • I think if you have the 2 weeks off from work Hawaii is amazing and i would go! The flights arent terrible! We did a 6 hour flight from NY to Arizona. Then Arizona to Hawaii. We stayed in Honolulu and it was so amazing. The nightlife was fantastic, the resort always had something going on also. I am not the sightseeing type either. We did a lot of the touristy things such as climing diamond head, the helicopter tour and submarine. My best friend just came back from St. Lucia, stayed at La Toc and had a really nice time however she did say that the nightlife started to wind down fairly early. (12-1am) and coming from nyc nightlife it was a bit of a switch lol but she did say it was beautiful. St. Lucia is a short flight and you may always have the time to go but to actually have the time to go to Hawaii is a great experience that i wouldnt pass up! Best of luck to you! Laughing

  • Thanks guys ... I have been checking out Costa Rica. Cancun Mexico we decided against because we both feel we can do that in a week in the future....Eileen I feel the same way about Hawaii and am hoping to convince my FI....If you dont mind me asking .... how much roughly did you pay to go to Hawaii, where did you stay, and was stuff expensive there?

Hawaii was an amazing trip and i highly recommend it! We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. http://www.hiltonhawaiianvillage.com/ Prices vary depending on the time of year. We went in May and we stayed in the Rainbow tower. Prices seemed to vary depending on the tower bc of the views. We paid $359 per night. You can also get better deals depending upon the time of year you want to go, i also believe they offer a AAA discount. For our flights we used airmiles which came in super handy! However, Hawaiian Airlines is from what i hear phenomenal and they offer great deals also. Food was a bit pricey at times. We went to ihop the first 2 days we were there and realized that we were paying way too much for some eggs and pancakes. Ended up going to a local place every morning that served a delicious breakfast and for 2 people with tip we paid $25 and left full! Excursions can be pricey as they can be anywhere. But if you book excursions through the resort you can save $$ there as well. The area surrounding the resort is gorgeous! They also have chain resturants like outback there. I would really recomment pricing it out and seeing if you can convince FI to go! Trip of a lifetime! (This may sound silly but i bought the Hawaii for Dummies book and it was beyond helpful )

  • If you are looking for nightlife (and beach) I have to suggest Puerto Rico (San Juan bars are jumping!), Aruba (plenty of bars and restaurants) and based on your timing I would island hop between Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire.

Another suggestion would be Turk n Caicos...
  • Thanks Eileen -- all that info is helpful---I will look into the link on the hilton.

  • @ theencorebride Puerto Rico and turks & caicos are both on our plan to visit list. We have been checking those out too. thanks
