Honeymoon in Tennessee: Repost

My FI and I are planning on going to Tennessee for our honeymoon. I was wondering what some fun things to do and see there are. We havn't decided on a city yet. Im really just looking for a starting point.

I have posted this question on the Tennessee bored and on my local Chit Chat bored and someone there suggested I post it on here.

Re: Honeymoon in Tennessee: Repost

  • It really depends on what you want to do while you're there. If you just want to relax, you can go to the Smokey Mountains- there are a lot of great romantic cabins in the woods and you have the national park there to explore as well.

Nashville is great if you like the nightlife....there are lots of great bars and restaurants, as well as historic sites to see (the Hermitage, civial war sites) and it also hosts Tennessee's largest brewery that holds brewery tours on the weekends (Yazoo!)

If you want a more outdoorsy honeymoon, you can go to Chattanooga and go down to the Ocoee for white water rafting, kayaking, camping.

Then, theres Memphis, which hosts Graceland (!) and is home to great bars and restaurants.

There really are a lot of different options for you wherever you decide to go.

  • I live in Tennessee & love it :) What time of year are you going? Gatlinburg is a nice spot for a honeymoon. You can easily find a nice peaceful cabin nestled in the mountains and still be close to everything. There are TONS of things to do in Gatilnburg/Pigeon Forge, plus you're only an hour or so away from Cherokee, NC, which is also an interesting place to go.

FI and I are actually planning on staying our first couple of nights after the wedding at Whitestone Inn in Kingston before we fly to Florida for our honeymoon cruise. You could check it out, it looks super nice. It's a bed and breakfast in a really peaceful setting, about an hour from the Smoky Mountains (www.whitestoneinn.com)

I also adore Nashville for its nightlife and music scene, but it's not really a typical honeymoon location. There is a lot to do though.

  •   We'll be going in October. As far as what we would like to do? We'll I personally want to do as MUCH as possible. I love going out and seeing new places. I like exploring, I've been in the bear cave in the Alleghany Mountians in New York. That was AWESOME! Just lots of fun active things.
Ken's up for anything, but he is a big history buff. We got a year pass to Greenfield Village here in MI and we went like 7 times, he never gets tired of it. He also loves fishing.
Thanks for all the input girls it really helped, keep it coming!

  • In October it will be gorgeous! I would recommend going to the Smokies and researching some hiking trails you might enjoy. You have the Smoky Mountain National Park, which gives you tons of places to explore. If your husband likes fishing you can google fishing spots in east Tennessee, I don't go fishing so I don't know the best spots but I know there are a lot of good places. You may also be interested in places ilke Tuckaleechee Caverns, Ruby Falls, and the Lost Sea, which are all in different areas of east Tennessee.

A cool historical place I have been is the home of Gov. John Sevier which is also in the area. There are other places like that as well.

  • We just returned from a trip to Gatlinburg this past weekend.  It is a wonderful little town with plenty to keep you busy!  We spent a lot of time hiking in the national park. We also did some of the touristy things like Dollywood and Dixie Stampede. Pigeon Forge is where most of the shopping, restaurants and touristy things are located. You'll find lots of dinner theaters and  things like the new Titanic attraction there.

I would highly recommend the cabin we rented 'Angel's Choice' through Dollywood Vacations. If you plan to do Dollywood and Dixie Stampede renting though Dollywood Vacations is great because you get excellent prices on the tickets as well as free parking in a reserved lot at Dollywood through them.  Most of the cabins are located in the Starr Crest Resort which is in a great location making it easy to get everywhere.  Another rental company also had a heavy presence in the community, Sugar Maple Cabins, and I've heard good things about them as well.

You can also take day trips to Cherokee, NC (for gambling) or Asheville to visit the Biltmore house.
