Any Fall brides honeymoon in the Caribbean?

My FI and are looking for a honeymoon resort, and we both want somewhere warm and beachy. He refuses to do Mexico, so we are thinking Jamaica or the Dominican Republic. However, I recently was told October is hurricane season (we're getting married 10/1/11) and I really don't want to have to worry about that.

So my question... did any Fall brides go to the Caribbean or similar locations and experience bad weather? Any suggestions or comments?

Any and all opinions are appreciated. I realize weather is unpredictable at times, but we want to think about all options and possibilities before booking :)

TIA!

  • Yes, hurricanes may occur in the caribbean in october and even november, but the major ones are earlier, august and september. my fiance and i are actually going on vacation this saturday to st. thomas to my paren'ts timeshare. they've gone many times, always the last week in october and they haven't been hurricaned yet, always beautiful they say. maybe just pushing your honeymoon back a week or two will minimize your hurricane risk.

  • If you do go during huricane season, it's probably worth it to purchase the travel insurance.  FI and I went to Puerto Rico in May, which is the start of the season and bought the trip insurance.  Although we luckily didn't need it, it was a comfort to have.  (PR got hit by a hurricane a few months later)

  • I live in Antigua and it's beee-utiful out today! :) (too bad I'm in an air-conditioned office all day).

Things usually quite down from October onwards, but as PP suggested, maybe you want to put off the honeymoon till mid-October just to be on the safer side.
