January Honeymoon Recommendations in the Caribbean

Hi ladies, we are going on our honeymoon in January. We were looking at St Lucia, but flights look like a hassle and we will likely only have 5-6 days for our honeymoon so dont want to spend any of it stuck in a layover somewhere for a night. We are looking to go to another island in the caribbean. We will likely spend alot of our time on the beach so looking for warm weather, but would like to do a few fun excursions as well (maybe snorkeling, hiking, etc - we are open to try whatever the island has to offer). Any recommendations? TIA!

Re: January Honeymoon Recommendations in the Caribbean

  • If I could sum up st Lucia in a word it would be overrated. By far my least favorite Caribbean island. I love grand Bahama but not in Jan. Jamaica and Aruba might be good options. Jamaica is more lush and tropical, Aruba is more flat and desert like.

I have to agree. I visited 5 islands on my HM and St. Lucia was my least favorite. I highly recommend St. Kitts or Barbados.

  • I think Aruba would be a good bet, but as mentioned above, it's not lush and tropical if that's something that's important...it's more dry and desert-ish, but it's nice and warm all year, something you might not find in other parts of the caribbean in January (bahamas, turks & caicos, etc).   Good restaurants, too.
  • Thanks for the recommendations - will look into these :)

I was in Playa del Carmen area of Mexico during December and it was nice.  There's plenty to do there as far as snorkeling and what not goes.  You can even take the ferry over to Cozumel for a day or two.  That area is really nice as well.

Oh..and I will add that Jamaica is very nice but if you decide to go there stay in your resort!!  I was there on a cruise and would not go back unless I was staying at a resort and didn't plan to leave the resort area.
  • We stayed at Sandals Royal Plantation in Jamaica last January and really liked both the island and the resort.  The resort was small and intimate which would be perfect for a honeymoon.  T
This past January we stayed in Turks and Caicos-- which was also really nice but we liked Royal Plantation much better.  We definitely enjoyed being able to leave the resort in Turks, but didn't feel it had a Caribbean vibe.  (We almost felt like we were in America with resort after resort on the beach.)  My husband dives- and he really enjoyed the diving there.
I can send you our TripAdvisor review for both if you are interested- just PM me.  Good luck!

It will be a little too chilly in the Bahamas in January. So, I would look at something a little further south. Also, some of the more exclusive islands (Anguilla, Turks and Caicos, St.  John) will be SUPER expensive because it's high season. Not sure of your budget, but keep that in mind.
