Disney?

Does anyone know if Disney World in Florida is a good place to honeymoon? The website makes it seem like it... I'm getting married in Orlando, so I figured having a honeymoon there would help cut costs slightly - instead of worrying about airfare and passports to go to places like Europe.

My best friend went to Disney for her HM and loved it.  As people have said it depends what type of HM you're looking for.  I want a tropical relaxing one with no kids so it's no go for me.  How about taking a cruise our of Florida?

  • Well, I DO like the idea of relaxing, but that's something we do 2 days a week every week. We'll be moving to FL in May this year so tropical will be a every day sort of thing - hot hot hot. I'm fairly certain that if we decided to only relax on our honeymoon, he would go crazy after half a day or so. He loves video games and I hear there's something in Disney for people like that. I wish we could go somewhere with a cooler climate, but it would have to offer a lot of entertainment for us. Lol !
  • We are going to disney, i am so excited. I got the unofficial guide & read it cover to cover in about 2 weeks, now i am going back to highlight all the key points. Also disboards has lots of info from real life people who have gone on vacations there or are going there.

We are going to go on a more relaxing trip for our 1st anniversary. We are doing a family moon & i am set on going somewhere with my teenage son as we are older & him getting a stepdad is a big deal to me, his father has never been around so i want him to feel included from the get go. My fiance is ok with it, we don't need the "traditional" honeymoon as we have lived together for 5 years .

    Go, have fun!!!

  • Others are right that it definitely depends on what you're looking for HM wise. For us it was always a given that we would HM there. Our first vacation together was there, we got engaged there... We've been there together three times already (over a span of seven years) and I've lost track of how many times I was there before him (my family's not rich we just skip out on other things so that we can go) so we'll be able to have a leisurely pace. We're also adding on our first Disney cruise, which I'm very excited for!

Honestly, for all the times that we've been to Disney, most of the times I don't even notice the kids. It also depends on the time of the year that you're going. We go during value season and the parks are pretty dead. I went once in July and I'll never go during that time again. So many HUGE tour groups. They get in line ahead of you and the ride jumps from a 15 minute was to over an hour. Ugh.

Disney is also great about paying special attention to guests. They're very big on celebrations. When we got engaged, we wore a pair of Just Engaged buttons around the parks and got non-stop congratulations and quite a few free desserts! You can do the same with just married buttons.

Definitely check out the Disboards. Especially the wedding/honeymoon section. Read through some of the trip reports there to get a feel for what couples do.

DH and I went to Disney for our HM and loved it, but we also go there frequently. If you are looking for something where you're constantly on the go, then Disney would be great for you. Have you thought of a Disney cruise? You can make it as relaxing or busy as you want. We've never been bored on a Disney cruise. GL!

  • I like to call myself a Disney fan girl. I lived in Orlando when I was very young and my family and I have been back to Disney World many times since moving back to New York. It wasn't until I was an adult and went down the past two falls that I realized it is fun for all ages. The attention to detail from the cast members makes you feel like you're in your own world.

My fiance popped the question on our last trip right before the fire works at the Magic Kingdom. My future brother and sister-in-law that we were vacationing with had gotten us the Just Engaged pins without me knowing (they were the ones that snuck my engagement ring down there). The amount of attention, extra perks, etc we got the rest of the week made the engagement and trip extra special. It was the best week of my life! And I'm sure they only do that much and MORE if you're spending your honeymoon there. That's where my FH and I are planning on heading for ours next fall.

<div>This exactly! </div><div> FI was there when he was a toddler, and I have never been (but a big Disney fan)!  We live in Tampa so beach vacations are not really a big deal to us.  We can relax on the beach any weekend we choose!  :)  Also saving on travel expenses!  I'm more excited about going to Disney than I was to go to Mexico last year! :)
