Bridesmaids dress shopping!

We went shopping today to look for dresses. I'm letting each girl pick their own dress as long as its the same fabric and color.

We went to David's Bridal but didn't seem to find anything that was perfect so I made an appointment at Alfred Angelo for Thursday. I have a problem though. One of my bridesmaids is super pregnant. She is 31 weeks right now. We went in today and they said that we need to order the dress now and just have it altered after she gives birth. What do you guys think? She is due Feb. 29th so I was hoping to buy hers asap when she has the baby. Should we order it now? they said alternations take 4-6 weeks so she would have to send it in by the first of may regardless just to make sure it was back in time.

Re: Bridesmaids dress shopping!

  • When I was at Alfred Angelo they told me to order the dresses 5 months in advance so I think you would have time if you ordered them right after her having the baby.

They may do a rush order to have it in time for the wedding and alterations???  If not, I would definitely order as soon as possible.  I ordered a BM dress last summer from DB & it came in 2 weeks later...so, it all depends..

Edit: Also, you have to remember that she may go past her due date by 2 weeks depending on her situation...so, it may be a good idea to order and then have alterations done.

<div>Well I think we are leaning towards getting their dresses from Alfred Angelo. I think I may wait and order them the begining of Febuary. I'm just super nervous it wont fit her. They said that with that time period they cant guarantee rush orders will be back within 2 weeks which makes me even more nervous :/</div>

  • I would order now in a size that she is confident fitting in later. Even if that means ordering a bit big. It's always easier to take a dress in than let it out. And btw, 4-6 weeks for alterations is nuts! I guess it depends on the type of dress and how complicated it is, but the salon that I ordered from said they could do them in a couple hours. We're talking taking up the hem and making the boob area fit.

  • I agree with the PP- order the dress a bit big, after all it is always easier to remove fabric than figuring out how to add them!!

They told me this too when i ordered my BM dresses at Alfred Angelo but my dressed ended up coming in about month! All my girls had their dresses before xmas and the lady before i ordered it said i was already late ordering the dresses, so i think it all depends on where you get the dresses, the desginer, etc.
