October Honeymoon - HELP!

My fiancé and I have begun thinking about our honeymoon, but I can not come up with the right place for us. We are getting married 10/14/11 in Massachusetts and we will be taking our honeymoon shortly after the wedding – say that Sunday or Monday. We know we’d like a 7-10 day vacation (all-inclusive if that makes it easier) and somewhere RELAXING and romantic. We aren’t “beach bums” but something about tropical islands tells me we may not mind being on a beach all day with a sea breeze and drink in hand. We aren't club goers, so a huge nightlife isn't too important. As long as the location is pretty civilized and occupied, and there is something else to do other than go to the beach (think: cute shopping, spa, tours) That said, we aren’t stuck on having a tropical honeymoon and are open to all ideas. My fiancé does not do well on long flights – I think 4-5 hours max. What suggestions do you have for an October honeymoon? I know it’s a rather vague question but I do not know where to start! THANK YOU J
Amanda

  • I have to mention too that my fiance doesn't do boats! So a cruise is out...
  • Based on everything you said I'm going to suggest my favorite island, St. Barth. There are no AIs but there are over 80 restaurants on an 8 square mile island. It is one of the safest (if not the safest) island in the Caribbean and the shopping is amazing. Every designer you could hope to find is there along with many local designers. There are several spas and some great hikes you can do as well as scuba and snorkeling. Nightlife there basically consists of a long leisurely dinner during the low season. In my opinion private villas are the way to go for total privacy and romance. Look at the St. Barth Properties site and you'll get a feel for the island and for places to stay. We've worked with them multiple times and had great experiences Smile

  • We're going to Secrets Maroma in Riveria Maya Oct 18-25th for our HM.

It's all-inclusive, 3.5 hr flight from Chicago, adults only, and on one of the best beaches in the world. It has nightly entertainment but I've read that several guests opt not to go. From what we've read, it's primarily HMers.
  • You may consider San Francisco or even Savannah, Georgia. Both have very temperate and comfortable weather at that time of year with excellent city amenities (i.e. wine country, plantations, etc.). Very romantic. Also, from your location, Europe is not a long flight. You may look into Paris, London or Barcelona, which are lovely in the fall.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: October Honeymoon - HELP! : Thanks! St. Barth looks AMAZING! But isn't it on the pricier side?

Well St. Barth has that reputation but it doesn't have to be expensive! We did our last trip on more of a budget. Flights from SXM to SBH are 120 Euro pp RT and you can usually find a rental car for around $250 per week. Villa rentals start around $1500 a week (we're renting La Soie next time we go and it is an economical choice). Last time we got a steal as the villa we rented, Aquamarine, was 50% off. There are always specials during the low season so you can find deals! Meals can be expensive but we dined at the villa some and did several 29 Euro prix fixe menus for dinner. We ended up spending around $1k on meals. When it was all said and done we spent around $3500 plus airfare (we used AA miles) and had a fabulous trip!

  • We are getting married next Oct too and were just talking honeymoons too!!! Originally were thinking Greece/Italy but then realized the weather is actually cool that time of year so ot the best time to enoy their beautiful beaches, so we are back to thinking carribean as well.. any thoughts on hurricane season In Oct???

  • We're getting married this Saturday (I can't believe it!) and are going to St. Lucia on Sunday. We chose this island because it is OUT of the hurricane belt, although no where is truly immune.

It's tropical, mountainous and rain forest, all on one island. Flying direct from JFK. There are all-inclusives, also boutique hotels...we're staying at Jalousie Plantation, which is one of the original resorts on the island. This is our second marriage, and didn't want to advertise "Honeymooners"! We knew we wanted a vacation (i.e. lay around and relax) as opposed to a trip (Europe, Greece, etc).

Good luck..I'll post when I get back!

  • I stayed at the Excellence Riviera on my honeymoon 2 Octobers ago... it was a nice resort but the front desk left something lacking... with that being said we LOVE the area and liked that there was more to do than just sitting on the beach (Ziplines, Ruins, etc). We are headed back to the area in 2 weeks, but staying at the Royal Playa Del Carmen. We had a hard time paying a cab $35/each way into either Cancun or Playa Del Carmen to do things... so I picked the Royal so we didnt have to pay for cabs!
  • I know you mentioned that he doesn't do well on long flights, but if you stop along the way i suggest hawaii. We stayed at a place called Kona Village and it was wonderful. they had an inclusive option and I never went hungry with all the food they had all day long. There is plenty to do if you want to, but you really will just want to lay around and relax after all the wedding stress. There is so much see and the Big Island is beautiful.
