DECEMBER WEDDING/HONEYMOON

Does anyone know of really inexpensive honeymoon places/ideas for a December 29 honeymoon? Such as a cruise, certain place to go, etc., whether cold or hot, and what is the best time of year to make those reservations and how early in advance?

Re: DECEMBER WEDDING/HONEYMOON

  • First you should decide what type of honeymoon you want.  Do you want to go somewhere warm with beaches, or do you want to go somewhere cold and ski the day away?  Usually cruises are your best bet to get the most bang for your buck because everything (to a point...check the crusiline) is covered and you get to see multiple locations.  And then you also need to decide on your budget.  What is your definition of inexpensive...less then a $1000 or less then $3000, etc.

  • Hawaii is pretty cheap in December.  Unfortunately you can get some rain during the day during that time, too.  If that's a risk you're willing to take though, it could be a great HM!  Check on the Hawaiian Airlines website--they're usually listing a lot of great deals and packages

  • I agree that cruises are the best bang for your buck. Also, look into vacation packages on expedia and orbitz because those are usually cheaper than booking with an agent.

  • December is a tricky time of year to travel because you not only have to deal with iffy weather in certain places but also many destinations' prices skyrocket for the holidays.  I know for a fact Mexican airfare & lodging tends to be quite pricey.

I was just having this convo last weekend with my cousin who is headed to Austrailia for two weeks over Christmas & New Years.  She's been before and couldn't believe how expensive everything is in Sydney around New Years in particular.

    Good luck to you!

  • It depends a lot on what you want.  Talk to your FI and see if he prefers cold vs. hot, ski vs. beach, active vs. layonthebeach.

Prices are usually much higher between Dec 15 - Jan 5 or so, so it's tough to travel this time of year on the cheap.  Hotels are more expensive and so are flights.
  • Dec 29 is one of the most expensive weeks of the year to travel.

I would try and wait a week.  A lot of rates drop by 50% or more the week after NY.  You will get more bang for your buck.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I got married last week and we are taking our honeymoon in January. We're going on a week-long Royal Caribbean cruise. It's about $2k for the both of us for a balcony room.
  • new years is one of the most expesive times of year to travel. what's your budget? interests? etc....
