Japan vs. Thailand vs. Malaysia (Borneo)

Currently trying to decide between the three for a July honeymoon.  I'm totally for Japan (my fiance less so and would rather add it to a trip that includes Thailand or Malaysia).  Has anyone been to Malaysia and have an opinion/suggestions?  I've been to Thailand and would love to go someplace new.

I've never been to Malaysia, but I hear it's nice there too. But I say talk your FI into Japan! I've been there 4 times now, and it just gets better and better! It's a country like no other! Also Thailand would be a nice choice too, they've got some amazing beaches, if you wanan go for the resort type honeymoon. You can ride on elephants and all. And budget wise, Thailand and Malaysia are cheaper than Japan, but Japan is one of my favorites!

I love Japan (I lived there for 2 years and met my husband there)! If he's into beaches, take him down to Okinawa.

I've done Malaysia (Borneo) - starting in Kota Kinabalu, then moving down to Sandakan, and Tawau (forgive any mis-spellings, it was a few years ago).  We went to the orangutan sanctuary, swiftlet caves, and then did scuba diving on Mabul for a week.  It was a fun trip, but less romantic than I would have wanted for a honeymoon.

We've decided on Thailand for ours - we get the city (Bangkok), the cultural (Chiang Mai), and the beach (Khao Lak, 45mins north of Phuket).  We're doing floating market, fashion district for custom clothing, tiger sanctuary, elephant preserve, river rafting, cooking classes, trips to temples, traditional dancing dinner, snorkeling, dinner prepared by our hotel's chef behind a waterfall... the choices were endless and the hotel selections are amazing!
