Atlantis!

I've booked a trip to Atlantis for June 20-26th of this year.  Can people share anything they have heard about Atlantis?!  Have you been?  Have you stayed?

Thank you!

Re: Atlantis!

  • My parents LOVE Atlantis, and they try to get down there whenever they can.  They always talk about how the food package really isn't worth it (at least for them) because the servings at the restaurants they like are just so huge that they don't need that much for both lunch and dinner, and they're not really huge breakfast eaters.  They typically pack enough granola bars for a trip's worth of breakfasts.
They're actually going back down there a few days after my wedding (actually, while FH and I are on our honeymoon in St. Lucia!).
    Have fun!

  • We LOVE LOVE LOVE the Atlantis. There's so much to do you never have to leave the resort! Food, casino, beach, lagoons, water rides, pools, it's amazing!

  • I've been there, fortunately as a guest of the casino because I can't imagine anyone paying the ridiculous rates they charge.  The grounds are exquisite and there's a reasonable amount of things to do, but it's simply not nice enough to warrant the $450+/night rates they want during peak season.  The food is expensive too, and the craps table (and probably blackjack too) are $15 minimums even in the middle of the night, which I didn't care too much about but FI is not as big a gambler and likes $5 or $10 tables at most, so that didn't make for very fun gambling.  Drinks at pool side bars are even worse, $10 and up for rum & coke, etc.

All in all I've enjoyed the time there but it definitely could have been better and I definitely wouldn't go if I had to pay for the room.

  • I went for a company trip so I only paid $300 including flight and room for 4 days, we stayed at the Royal Towers.

While I did think it was really pretty - I am not sure I would go back and pay full rates, but thats just me, a lot of people LOVE it.
  • You will have an amazing time.  I've traveled all over the caribbean and Nassau-Paradise Island is definitely my FI & I's favorite place!  It's gorgeous for one, then all of their pools/waterslides are a blast, great casino, and you can swim with dolphins!  I love it.

  • i've stayed there. i felt it was over-priced and it was absolutely teemng with kids. i wouldn't stay again. i have no problem paying a lot for a great resort-this fell very short.

  • We are going there for our HM and are staying at The Cove. I have heard wonderful things about it.

  • Thank you all so much!  It's paid for already so I know about the pricing.  We wanted the honeymoon more then the actual wedding anyways and that's how we ran financials.  We have gone to Disney so we are thinking we'll do ok with the amount of kids...hopefully!

Problem with the Cove is there's nothing to do there, so you end up waiting for the every fifteen minutes trolley to take you to the main building for all the restaurants, clubs, shops, casino, etc.

  • The Cove is far walk or shuttle to the Royal Towers where the shops, casino, aquarium and a lot of the restaurants.  However, it is more private and exclusive.  You have to have a separate wristband to be on the Cove part of the property.  The pools are less busy.  I think you get on the lazy river from there if I remember correctly and ride it to the main pool and slides (which are all awesome!!).  At one of the pools at the Cove they have smaller sized casino tables which are kinda fun because you can walk up in your bathing suit barefoot and play craps/blackjack.  One good thing about the Cove is they have their own beach so it tends to be less busy and easier to get a chair.  It's more secluded than the beach at the Royal Towers.  If you like being at the beach and it is a busy time or you like having an umbrella (which their weren't many when I was there), give the guy who sets up the chairs money on your first day and tell him to set you up chairs and/or umbrella each day.   They do have a couple restaurants (I remember a Tex-mex restaurant of Bobby Flay's at the Cove).  Bahamian Club at the old part of Atlantis was a nice steakhouse that we loved.  I think it may have closed though.
