Maui Honeymoon- Royal Lahaina Resort?

My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon to Maui in July. We have been looking at different resorts online but there are so many. Has anyone been to or know anything about the Royal Lahaina Resort? It is the only one I've found that offers so much included in the price.

Re: Maui Honeymoon- Royal Lahaina Resort?

  • My husband and I stayed there for 5 nights in November for our honeymoon. We had a great experience there. Food choices were good & drinks choices (and happy hour specials) were good too!

Our package included the breakfast buffet each morning (delicious), sunset dinner cruise (not choppy, good meal, not quite a great sunset, but it happened to be cloudy that day), and Luau (good choice of food & great entertainment). The room itself was big & clean, with a balcony overlooking the beach. We saw some great sunsets there.

Our only dislike was that the hot tub was in a way inconvenient spot (as in, not near the beach, pool, our room, or bars), so we never used it. Also, the towel card... getting a towel at the pool area nearly takes an act of God. The front desk never gave us a towel card, and they hassled us about giving us another one and wanted to charge us $20 to replace the non-existant card. If you get a towel card, hold onto it for dear life.

The resort itself is located near a great shopping area and it provides a shuttle there. (I think it was free, I don't remember?) There was plenty to do if we wanted, but we were tired after the wedding, and spending the first 4 nights of our honeymoon in Oahu; so it was also plenty relaxing to just sit by the pool or ocean. We had rented a car, but didn't even need to use it some of the days that we were on the island.

Overall, I was sad to leave and we certainly hope to make it back there one day. If you have any other questions, let me know!

  • We stayed there a few years ago when we went to Maui, it was pretty nice (we had just the basic room).  The only negative thing I really remember about the hotel itself was that the elevators seemed to take forever, but I noticed some workers there, so it may have been a problem they were working on (this was 3 years ago).

The beach was good and there was some really great snorkeling there too.  I don't really remember the pool area because I don't think we used it.

  • I am so glad you posted about Royal Lahaina!  We are getting married in June 2012 and are also researching places to stay in Hawaii.  This resort has been one that I've kept eyeing.  If anyone has any more reviews, please post them :)

  • Thanks for all the answers! I have also been looking at the Westin Resort & Spa in Maui. Does anyone have any experience with this resort? Or how to get the best deal? Any insight is greatly appreciated! Can't wait for Hawaii!
  • I've been to the Westin a couple of times and it is in an ideal location, has a great pool, and a lot to do.  The standard room, however, is very small.  I actually prefer the Sheraton more than the Westin since it is at the end of the beach near the black rock (not quite as hectic as the Westin location, but can still easily walk down the beach boardwalk to everything) and seems more spacious.

Although I haven't stayed at the Royal Lahaina, I've heard good things about it as well.  If it's a lot less expensive then it's worth exploring.  If it's similar in price to the resorts directly on the beach, then I would choose the Westin or Sheraton.

    Good luck!
