London

My FI and I are thinking about going to London for a week on our honeymoon.  Any advice on cheap hotels, airfare or etc.?

  • I reommend you look at Rick Steves Europe.  He has a ton of informatiion about London and other places.  Do a lot of reserach first.  I agree with the previous poster Trip Advisor is a good place to start as in venere.com and on yahoo travel you are able to do a ton of research too.

As you have guessed, I too am going to Europe but have not booked yet.

  • I live in London.
There are "cheap" chains, like Hojos called Premier Inn.  They are basic, bathroom in room, but doable.
I think your best bet would be to rent an apt.  that way you can eat in for breakfast at the very least and save some cash.

  • We went to London this summer and had a great time. We stayed at the London Hilton Metropole, which was very convenient to the Edgware Road tube station. We landed at Heathrow Airport and then took the Heathrow Express train to Paddington Station, and it was a five-minute walk to our hotel from there. We took the Heathrow Express back to the airport when our trip was over.

We got a London Pass, which got us into a lot of historical landmarks for free. It also came with a one-day unlimited tube pass for each day that we'd booked the London Pass for, and it got us on a ferry as well.

We also booked a day tour through Evan Evans travel to see Windsor Castle, Bath and Stonehenge.

  • I'm moving to London in November and my FI lives there now, so I hope this helps!

I agree with the other post in that you don't want a super bargain hotel or you will be miles away from where you want to be...remember London is huge, you want to stay in Central London. Anywhere in Crystal Palace or Wembley is WAY too far...you're going to end up spending all of the money you save on your tube pass.

If you're looking for more of a splurge, The Rembrant is really nice and right in the mix of things. For more something less expensive, but still nice and in a great location, The Rookery is great. It's a historic boutique hotel, nothing like a massive Holiday Inn.

I have stayed in the cheaper hotels in Crystal Palace before, but like I said, it is a solid 40 minute bus AND tube ride into the city where the touristy stuff is. London is such an expensive city...anything that looks like  steal is probably too good to be true.

I also agree that renting an apartment is a great way to go. Everything you need will be provided (linens, towels, etc) and will most likely be more reasonably priced than any hotel in Central London.

Hope this helps, feel free to message me if you have any questions!
