Chair Alternatives?

I just read about the hay-bale seating on another board - what a cute idea!!! Also a good way to cut out the chair rental costs. Has anyone else ever come across an alternative to chair seating? I'd love to do something different, but hay bales don't really fit most themes. I just thought this might be an interesting topic to brain storm. :) Thanks!

Personally, I advocate chairs. I just think it's the most considerate for your guests. But I have seen the blankets on the beach as seating before, like this:http://www.marcyann.com/images/beach_wedding_c_beachbaby.jpg------------------------------------------------------------------------http://www.allcaliforniabeachweddings.com/2%20blankets%20beach%20baby.JPG----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think if your having sort of a rustic themed wedding this is a really cute idea I would agree with PP though to put a blanket or something on the hay bale so people aren't getting poked in the tush.

I'm considering benches. Either simple style wooden ones, or just boards on cement blocks- then covering the blocks with material. I just feel like this would be a more cost effective solution, since the boards could be used afterwards and there'd be no pick-up/delivery stress. I'd definitely have chairs in the back for those who weren't comfortable on a backless bench. Good thing I have lots of time to think about this stuff!!

Since you were more specific about wanting benches, I googled and found this:http://www.intimateweddings.com/blog/wedding-benches-latest-trend-in-outdoor-seating/

Pillows? Beanbags? Another person (especially a good idea if you have ppl you'd like to give "jobs" but don't want to put them in the WP)? You could rent a pack animal for each guest - horse or donkey? - and that would kill two birds with one stone: transportation *and* seating.

My rental agent has log stumps that I may use for seating around two fireplaces at my location. She said a couple used them for ceremony seating, and they have pillow cushions on top. Would that work?

I think hay bales would be cute if you are getting married in a barn or other rustic building. And I think it would be cheaper to rent chairs than buy hay. So unless you have access to it, I vote regular chairs.

Here in IL hay is between $4-5 per bale. Im sure you could find it cheaper. But the cheapest way to go would be straw. =)

I think the Bench Idea is REALLY cute for a ceremony then having regular seating at the reception. However finding the benches has proven difficult for me. :( Thanks for the idea though! :) Even though of course this wasnt my post lol
