Ideas for Outdoor Reception (Tent?)

My reception will be in mid-May near the mountains. The views are beautiful and I would like to keep tenting as minimal as possible. My biggest fear, however, is that the weather will not cooperate and cause issues. Does anyone have experience with renting tents as a backup plan even if you make the decision on the day of the wedding to put them up or not?How about tenting for the actual ceremony? My ceremony will also be held outside and the same fear exists, weather. How do you make sure that everything goes off without a hitch, regardless of weather? Tent the ceremony area? Rent a tent as back up? Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.

  • Rent the tents.  They'll be there in case of bad weather, which will make you less stressed.  We're also getting married in a beauiful outdoor setting, but the tents are open and don't obstruct any views.  We'll only put walls on the tents if the weather is terrible (fingers crossed it won't be)!

  • I agree with renting the tents.  I got married on June 6th and it was 50 and rainy. I know someone who just got married last weekend and it rained. Both were in Montana by the mountains.

  • I just had a tented wedding, and I can tell you that there is no way they would have been able to get it put up, set up and decorated the day of the wedding.  It was a high peak pole tent with trees around the poles, lights, and wired for electicity (we had to bring the electricity out to it which in and of itself took an entire day with an electrician.  I would definitely have the tent as a back -up, but depending on the size/style it might have to be set up in advance.

  • I would DEFINITELY rent a tent. Unfortunately, you have no way of knowing what the weather will be like and trust me, you'll feel much better knowing that you have protection just in case. We're also planning on having sides on the tent if the weather is really bad (our rental company has allowed us to only use them as a last minute option).
  • I suggest a tent as a backup.  You can rent clear tents, too, though, so you could have a tent, but the effect of having it there might be less intrusive--it will at least let light and some of the view in.  Just a thought...  I know I'm late to this thread, but if you read this, I hope it helps.
