lighting/tent issue

hopefully this isnt long..we're having our reception on the rooftop of a house on the beach..here's the problem..since our reception is around 7pm, we will need a good deal of lighting. well i have ideas for hurricane lanterns since it will be windy that high up(3rd story) and facing the beach winds. i would absolutley love to do the whole paper lantern lighting, but how to put it up?sorry this is hard to explain due to the layout..i would show a pic but can't figure out how to put it on here..there is always the chance of it raining since it is the first of may. so tenting might also be needed..well if i had tenting the lighting would be easy, but i'm  not sure about what kind of tent would go up there with the strange layout.. i could send a pic to someone via email if they had any ideas...any thoughts? sorry not the best with wording.

Re: lighting/tent issue

  • My suggestion is to find a tent rental company, send them a picture of this roof and have them tell you what your options are.  They shouldn't charge for a consultation.  Most tents need to be anchored into the ground, especially in areas of high wind, so I have no idea how that would work on a roof...  Sounds like you need a plan B...

  • Ditto subdola. I would call around to some rental companies. You could even ask them to come out to the actual house to take a look (we had ours come and measure). I'm sure the realtor would arrange a time for you to let you come. Did you have a different plan B originally? As far as the lanterns, are there any high posts up on the deck or anything up high?
  • sorry i havent answered back, was out of town...as for plan B, yes i thought of that and the house i think is big enough for people inside. we would have to rearrange furniture though before the wedding which could make it a bit hectic...as for the lanterns we have walls all around the roof that go up to about right above waist..also to get to the roof there is a staircase and elevator that come up right at the top which is about the size of a small storage shed(sounds bad but actually looks ok)..
