Been to OAHU?

Tell me why you enjoyed it.  What was your favorite thing that you did?  They say Maui is more beautiful, but is Oahu more beautiful than Florida or California?

Re: Been to OAHU?

  • My Fiance' and I are going to Oahu for our Honeymoon in March! It will be my first time to Hawaii but I've heard fantastic things!  :)

  • I live in Florida and did not want to go to Hawaii when my husband suggested it.  I was out voted by the family so I went....kicking and screaming all the way.  I felt like once you've seen a palm tree, what more is there?  Boy was I wrong!

We visited Maui, Kauai, and Oahu.  Maui was interesting because of Haleakala and the Highway to Hana.  Both things that should not be missed.  Kauai was the prettiest of the three but much more of a place to just relax.

Oahu is a place that some people love and some don't.  I loved being able to visit Diamond Head and Pearl Harbor (I loved both of these so I'd have to say they were both my favorite thing to do).  I also liked the fact that when we walked out one door of our hotel in Honolulu we were on the beach but if we walked out another door we were in a great city for shopping and restaurants.  You can also drive around Oahu and see lots of different sights and some of it is quite beautiful.

It's difficult to answer your question.   I'd have to say that Oahu is just different from either Florida or California.  If you have the chance to go, don't pass it up.

  • It's a totally different climate and culture than either California or Florida. If you don't like the big city, there are lots of places to escape away to and explore/commune with nature!
  • FI and I went to both maui and oahu for an anniversary vacation. We really enjoyed both places but they both have completely different feels to them. Maui was more romantic and in my opinion more beautiful. Oahu has a busy feel to it, we stayed on the north shore because that was the least populated area but it still didn't compare to maui. I think if you looking for different things to do and attractions to see go to oahu but if you looking to relax and be in a romantic setting I would chose maui.

My fiance' and I really were interested in seeing the Pearl Harbor museums and such. So we didn't even question which island. My brother went to Maui on his honeymoon and they absolutely loved it.

One thing about Oahu though is that you kind of get the best of both worlds (I hear anyway).. We are staying at Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore on the OPPOSITE side of the island from Honolulu for the seclusion. The North Shore is relaxed and mellow from what I have heard and there are plenty of places to explore over the whole island. If you like the excitement but want some peace to I suggest Turtle Bay Resort or any hotel on the North Shore. Because you're in a peaceful area but anytime you want some excitement or want to enjoy the big city and Waikiki beach you can drive 45 minutes to Honolulu, and whats a 45 minute drive through HAWAII, obviously the scenery will be amazing to look at.

I also have heard a lot of awesome things about Maui but have not researched it much. However, no matter which island you stay at in Hawaii it is still Hawaii and it will be absolutely gorgeous.

     Good luck!!

  • Went to Oahu in 2002 and stayed at the Marriott on Waikiki Beach. The place is very clean for a city!! I remember even the Burger King was cool (has surfboards as door handles) I would say go to Duke's the food was really wonderful, mahi mahi was to die for. See if you can go to a Luau. I went to Paradise Cove and it was really good, stay away from the poi (I think that is the spelling). They actually pulled me up on stage and I had to shake it with the fire guy dancers! haha
We also flew over to the big Island and went to the volcano and saw alot of beautiful sites that included some gorgeous waterfalls!
The only downfall of Hawaii is the plane time, it would be less for you but from the east coast it was hard, if I ever go back I would stop in Vegas or San Fran for a night or two.
