NO UTILITIES!

So we've got an issue...my mom pointed out that it will be very expensive to run utilities to our wedding site. There are no utilities or bathrooms. Bathrooms aren't an issue because I found some extrememly nice port a potties. THey are actual port a potties. They are actually trailers with stalls and porcelain sinks and nice framed mirrors. They even have a men's and women's side. They really look like a restaurant bathrooms. The real issue is this utilities because we need it for music, lighting and the restrooms. Is there anyway to run utilities out to the reception and ceremony site? I was thinking generators but my mom si worried they'd be loud.

Your mom is right, generators will be loud.  How far away from a power source is it?  We had our caretaker (an electrician) run wires from our house out into the meadow.  He set up outlets and everything.  You can hire an electrician to do this, it's what they do for temporary power to construction sites and I think they can run them right from power lines as well.  I have no idea what the cost is, he paid for the wire because he can use it for other things.  If you are really really far away from a power source (like a house) you might have to bite it and get a generator, and then put it as far away from the tent as possible.  People do this and it seems to work out fine, it just wouldn't be my first choice.

Ditto pp - I have worked around generators and I own one.  They are crazy loud and will be a problem. Have you considered changing locations?  Those trailers you are renting are really expensive and you have none of the utilities that you need - which will cost another small fortune to have brought in.

I'm starting to think the same thing. I was so excited about this place cause it's absolutely gorgeous and noone has EVER been married there. I'm gonna look around at some other places. I just wanna have it somewhere where not too many people have done theirs.

I'm actually getting a generator for our wedding because our house won't be able to supply enough power for the band and the caterer.  The caterer said that there are plenty of quiet generators, and while they're a little more expensive, they're definitely worth it.

YAY!!!!!!!! Please let me know how much it runs you. I think i'm going to book 2 sites. The one that I have now bcause i'm in love with it. I don't have to pay for this one either so it won't be a huge deal to change it at the last minute (as in the last month).The other place will have bathrooms.I'm really in love with the place I have reserved now so if it's nice weather I wanna do it there.

My cousin got married in an aspen grove near Mammoth. Because it was such an out of the way spot, we were given a friendly "no facilities available" warning. The ceremony was short and we were at the reception within an hour of arriving for the ceremony. If you are having a short ceremony and another venue for your reception, personally I wouldn't worry about the restrooms. For music, you could consider acoustic and lighting could be battery-operated tea lights or something similar. The low lighting would also create a nice, romantic feeling. I think it may depend fully on the accessibility and safety of your preferred location as far as electricity for lighting.

the reception is in the same place. That's the problem. I know they've done it before because there used to be a fireworks show out on the same place. They had bathrooms and electricity so I know it's possible. I gotta call and see how they did it.

My ceremony is going to be in a mountain meadow with no utilities; it'll be during daylight, we'll have a harpist, and the portable washrooms will be powered with solar charged batteries. Would you consider having your ceremony in your fav location and having the reception in your new backup location? That might be the best of both worlds for you. Whatever you decide, don't go with noisy generators. They'll give an industrial background feel that will defeat the beauty of being in your isolated area, in which case you may as well just be somewhere with utilities!

Because I live in Tallahassee, FL it is always humid and doing a daytime outdoor wedding to me in the fall would be torture! Especially cause I personally sweat like a man! it's bad! the 2nd location is too far away from the 1st. I thought about moving venues for the reception but the site is about a 45 min drive away.
