Re: Tent in case of rain

  • I am wondering about this too.  And it takes time to set up the tents, so I don't quite understand how you can have tents "in case."
  • Your best bet is to contact your local rental company.  Every company has didn't guidelines for this.  Some will allow you to have one on "stand-by" up to a few days before the wedding for a minimal fee while others will require you to just rent it.
Also, it's not just rain your getting a tent for, it's also the sun.

  • I had this same problem. I called every local tent company in my area and the answer was the same. I had to book it with 1/2 the money down and the rest 2 weeks out from the wedding. Well, of course, 2 weeks out, I still wouldn't be able to predict rain! SO-I had to bite the bullet and I booked the tent, just to have peace of mind. I was driving myself nuts about the rain factor and I just didn't wanna chance it! Now we are using the tent, regardless, because I ain't giving them free money!
  • For my June wedding, I WILL use a tent, with sides!  Since my ceremony will be in my back yard- I want to be sure my guests are dry in case of rain and shaded should the sun be beating down our necks!  I have a beautiful view all around since I live in the country, so no sides if the the wind isn't blowing 100 mph, as it does at times in Kansas.  This way the view is there, the guests are comfy and I have don't have that stress and worry.  I am just going with it.  It will probably be my biggest expense I'm sure.Kiss
  • What will your guests do when the ground gets mushy ? Just something to think about. I would never use a tent as rain backup. The dance floor will get muddy when people are standing on it and the ground under it is wet. You could potentially have to pay your rental company for this. Shoes will be ruined also.

Ok, here are a few things. I am getting married outdoors in a park. This park is not a typical park, it does not get funding from the town or state. It funds itself. So they are very strict. when booking this place they told us that rain or shine and tents are avaiable if it rains. then a few months later they tell us that you cant put the tent where you want it and you cant put it up if it rains because the ground will be soggy and it will ruin the ground. So why have a tent? I would make sure that you can indeed put it up before adding this to your budget. the other thing is we were to put a deposite down and then 3 days prior say you will use it or not, forefitting your deposite if you dont use it. That is another to consider. Last but not least, is your reception indoors or also outside? We are having the reception indoors and as a back up, can hold our ceremony there at the beginning of the reception at a low cost. So keep that in mind to contact your banquet with that question.

When doing an outdoor function it is always hard to determine whether to get a tent or not, the deposit fees are usually half the cost. However tents do come with clear tops and sides. So if you are worried about the rain I would definitely book a tent that you could use rain or shine. That is the best way to do both. and as far as the rain flooding the grass I know Nationwide Tents offers event flooring, and dance floors as well as their tents! Clear tops tents are ALWAYS gorgeous though.
