outdoor wedding, but where?

I am planning to have an outdoor wedding but i can't find seem to find a place for my wedding and ceremony site. I live in a small town and most of my family and my FI's family are in th  area. I was just wondering if i find a place that is an hour away if it's too far for our families to travel or does it matter?

It would be better for you to post this on your local board.  

Mine and DH families are from a very small town with nothing really around it (our parents live right down the road from each other) and we decided to get married in one of the larger cities nearby.  It's about 1 hour and 45 minutes away.  Some family members decided to stay in a hotel in the city while others drove back after the wedding.

Not being in your state I can't give specific comments on location, but what about state or local parks or universities. They generally rent out areas?

We are doing our ceremony at the beach, then returning to my FMIL's, which is about 20 minutes away, for a backyard tented reception.

That's always a possibility as well.
