what to do...

I just started planning a destination wedding in melbourne beach florida.  I live in new jersey, so my mother and i took a trip down about 2 weeks ago to set the date and venue.  I found the perfect place, however i got a call this morning from the venue asking if i could move my time because they have another wedding booked that day at the time I BOOKED mine.  when i was down there, there was nothing planned that day.  should i stay with them and adjust my time for them or look for another venue.  the date i had wanted was may 14 2011, so i have plenty of time.

any suggestions?....

  • Did you have a written contract that sealed the deal with your wedding?
If not, then I would just look for another venue. It's a bad sign that they want to bump you because they double-booked.

Did the other wedding put down a deposit before you? If they just ditched you for another wedding, just because, then yeah, that's a little crazy.  But, if there was no contract and you hadn't put down a deposit, they are actually accommodating you by suggesting an alternate time on the day you want.  Sounds like you haven't put down a deposit if you're willing to walk away from the venue.
  • That SUX! I would totally choose another venue if they are already presenting issues, what else can come up in the next year? I would ditch them and not give them the chance to mess up your big day.

If they were thinking about booking someone else that was going to put a deposit down to get that day and you hadn't yet, They should have had the decency to call you and say taht someone wants this day and time and if you don't put a deposit down they have to give up your day. Otherwise I think they are totally in the wrong!
