Wedding Insurance

Anyone else having a wedding outside, maybe at a non-traditional place (like a farm...) and need liability insurance (including liquor liability)? We've found some sites, but we want to make sure they're good ones and be able to compare to others if possible.

Re: Wedding Insurance

  • Is it a family farm? A buisness?
We are having it at my FI parents home and they have to get a rider on their home owners insurance but nothing for liquor..
If it is a buisness they should have that already- or I would ask them to consider getting that and have them charger you a slighter higher price just to make sure it is done properly.. If it is family farm I would contact the city it is in and the home owners insurance and see what is required
We also have to stop the music at 10 pm for noise ordinance.
  • Most venues and/or caterers should have this already. If you are doing it solo, you have to get an ABC or state license for wine, beer, and alcohol.

<div>When you say "doing it solo", what about if the venue doesn't have a liquor license but they're doing everything else?  My brother-in-law is considering a place like that but I know he hasn't looked into insurance, which might add to the cost.  Anybody have a ballpark on what the additional cost is?</div>
  • We are getting married at a historical museum owned by the city. As part of our event license, we had to get a rider on our homeowners insurance to cover a certain amount of liability. The museum covers regular usage, but for events requires more. Tacking it onto the homeowners insurance was simple, and not too pricey. Be sure to find out how much coverage the venue requires, though. You don't want to buy too little and have it come back to haunt you, or buy way too much and waste the money.
  • www.wedsafe.com is good if you don't have homeowners insurance. you get a quote based on your event type, whether alcohol is being served and they add cancellation insurance as well.

  • Ours is at a local hotel, we are doing ceremony and reception there and they require us to purcase the insurance(we rent so i dont know if we had home owners if it would help!) it costs us $185.
  • I actually just got a call about this. I'm having my wedding at a campground, we need to get liquor liability and one day liability insurance. My mom doesn't think it's that much since it will only need to be for the day of the event.

I would highly suggest you contact your homeowner's insurance carrier (tenant and/or home) if you have one.  Many insurance carriers will provide you with a COI (Cert of Insurance) to extend liability to the venue up to a certain amount (1 million, etc).  Also you may ask your venue to further explain exactly was is needed and speak with (if you have one) a local insurance agent to determine if YOU should in fact be responsible for it.<div>
