Battling allergies on your BIG day! Any suggestions/help...?

Unexpectedly (two years ago) I developed an allergy for most furry-animals and dust mites.  This has the unfortunate side effect that I literally sneeze every 15 - 20 minutes (multiple times, soemtimes accompanying watery/itchy eyes) and I'm worried about how this will affect how I look on my wedding.  Maybe it seems silly, but I don't want my pictures of me saying "I do" to have me look like I'm sick...

Our wedding is at a goat farm (I LOVE animals!) and I want to take a few pictures with some of the young goats, but I'm worried that this will have me literally in tears (not happy ones) and my eyes itchy/puffy.

So I wanted to ask if anyone uses/knows of an effective allergy prevention method?  I've tried anti-histimines (benedryl) but it just makes me really tired/a bit loopy and that's not how I want to spend my day either.  Allergy shots also aren't an option (I live outside of the U.S. and they don't do those here).  Any advice?!

  • I have pretty severe allergies too, but I get allergy shots weekly.  Benedryl is an antihistamine that will make you drowsy.  Have you tried the non-drowsy ones like Claritin or Zyrtec?  Those work great for me and they don't make you drowsy at all.

  • I also think Benedryl is awful.  You may want to give Zyrtec, Claritin, or Allegra a try (all are available over the counter).  Personally I like Zyrtec D.

Is the goat farm close to where you live?  You could take an allergy pill/decongestant and have a trial day at the farm or a nearby petting zoo before your wedding.

  • I would suggest non-drowsy medicine for the day of and for a couple weeks before use a neti-pot. Its like a tea pot that you put salt water in and drain your nose...it really helps! Depending on your schedule for the day I would even bring it for the break before pictures and ceremony...its not super messy or anything..but I think it works great for my allergies

  • I always get the allgery medication that says + sinus!
I usually use reactin 24 hour.... works for me!
Arius 24 hr is really good too!

    Try speaking to your pharmacist!
  • ONE WORD....

    CLARITIN.
  • I'd recommend Zyrtec.  I've always had seasonal allergies, and in the past couple of years I've developed a cat allergy.  That's the only medication that works for me for both kinds of allergies.  I would suggest, though, that whatever medication works for you, that you start taking it some time prior to your wedding date so that your body can get used to it and it will be at maximum effect on yoru wedding day.
  • I don't know if you are able to get a prescripion but I have severe allergies to animals, dustmites, etc. and got on allergy shots....but the shots don't eliminate all of my allergie woes....so my allergy doctor prescribed Astelin...which is a nose spray that you can spray as a preventitive or once you start sneezing (it stops it instantly) and no drowziness!
