Parachutes and mosquitoes

I have two questions that I am mulling over. Fiance' and I are on a pretty limited budget and looking for ways to have a fun yet not so costly wedding. We are having wedding and reception right after both at our home in a rural area. Instead of the high cost of a tent, we are looking at rigging up our own "cover". This cover will not protect from rain, becuase we feel we'd haveto get a pretty hefty tent to do that as when it decides to rain here, it really rains! We are having the wedding in July and just going to HOPE. Anyway, a recent idea involves getting a parachute from Army surplus at like $60 and setting it up. They even come in white! Anyone ever done that? Or, any other unique ideas? My theme is to have a Middle Eastern or Indian theme, as belly dancing is a big part of my life and reception...I'd  love to have big drapped saris but don'tknow where I'dget them, and that ccould be pricey.

The second question is regarding mosquitoes. We are in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the bugs are bad, especially at night. I would so love to have an evening reception with hanging lanterns, dancing, etc but hubby -to - be thinks bugs would ruin it. Citronella candles? Anyone face similar problems and have ways to deal with bugs?

  • Yes, I never imagined it could be so lovely...especially with how the lights are set up. Thank you, Marshallra for the mosquitoes ideas!
