Outdoor Weddings

No mic?

Our ceremony is going to be short and sweet, and outdoor (unless it rains). There will only be about 50-75 people there. Would it would rude to have no microphone? Like just speak loudly? I don't want the cost and hassle, and also the theme of the wedding is natural. I don't want wires and feedback and all that.

Re: No mic?

  • We're doing something similar -- outdoors, small. We're not having microphones. My officiant seems to be able to project well enough to more than cover that base. I, too, don't want the feedback and the soundchecks and all that. We will have to have one cord to get power to a keyboardist, but that's it.
  • We are having a microphone, but the garden that we're having the ceremony on is long and oval, which calls for the rows of seats to be shorter. So we are just using our DJ's wireless mic free of charge! =)
  • I just got married at an outdoor venue on March 13 with about 90 guests. We didn't use a microphone and it turned out great...everyone said they heard everything. We even had the option of a mic from the dj, but the pastor assured us it wasn't necessary. And I think it made it feel more real without it..so I would spare the expense and not have a mic!
  • We arent using a mic either. Ours is outdoors, and ceremony is small enough  I think everyone will hear what is said. I wouldnt worry about it. Its just another detail to stress about IMO.
  • If you wedding is on the beach i would do a mic. I went to a beach wedding on the sand and I was in the front row and couldn't hear a thing because of the ocean, wind etc.  I think if its a quiet outdoor area like a garden all is good.

  • 40 guests, no mic here. It's just not worth all the extra stress.

We're just two lost souls swimmin' in a fish bowl, year after year
