cheap honeymoon

anyone know of a relatively cheap tropical honemymoon? Like under $3000  I can't justify to myself paying more than that on a vacation based on our budget, and honestly its really rough for me to part with that much, because I'm a huge tightwad lol. any ideas?

Re: cheap honeymoon

  • I would suggest the Dominican Republic or maybe a cruise.

  • We're planning on splitting our honeymoon into a few trips.  So the first will be a 4-night cruise, then we'll head somewhere in the NE over the summer, and not sure after that, but it's already looking to be way more bang for our buck.
  • I'm not sure where you live, but we're flying from the midwest and doing jamaica for just over $3000.00, if you live on the east coast it would be cheaper!!
  • We're going to the hotel Parador in Manuel Antontio, Costa Rica and it looks beautiful.  They have a bunch of packages ranging from 4 day trips to 7 day trips.  We're staying 7 days, got a room upgrade, transportation, breakfast, and a bunch of day trips all for about $2000 taxes included.  Airfare wasn't too bad either.

If you don't want the upgrade, it's much cheaper, like around $1400.
  • We're going on a 7 day caribbean cruise for $1800...airfare would have been another $600 but we paid for that with skymiles.

  • Depending on where you live, my FI and I just got back from a week long trip to Hawaii.  Hotel, airfare and rental car for the week for both of us was only $1700.  Then you count money for things you want to do, which in Hawaii, you can go cheap and just lay on the beach or you can go packed full of excursions and such.  Either way, that would still leave you with almost half of your budget for all the food and activities, which is totally doable.

  • I think on that budget, I would shoot for a cruise to get the most out of your money.

Our cruise was very reasonable for 7 days.  Watch out, drinks and excursions can add up quickly!  You should still be able to do it for less than 3k including air

This is the one we went on: http://www.carnival.com/BookingEngine/ProductView/?embkCode=MIA&itinCode=WEB&durDays=7&shipCode=VA&subRegionCode=CW&sailDate=9/4/2011&sailingID=56080

  • Creatin....  your honeymoon sounds awesome! I looked at their website and I'm confused with what all their rates include. Did you use a travel agent?

    Thanks

  • Jon&Janet, we didn't use an agent but we also didn't book through their website for that reason, we ended up just calling them, actually we sent an email and I think they called us, the woman who deals with reservations speaks pretty good english and made it very easy.   We got the adventure package and asked if we could change a couple of the excursions and she was very open to it and said not to worry about anything so I like them already.  Can't wait!
  • We are doing a 7 night cruise, including airfare (from detroit, mi) for $2600

  • we are doing an 8 day Carnival southern carribbean cruise for about $1,400. midship room with balcony, upper level.

we have a travel agent, and her only concern was with being on the boat for that long that we would go ridicuously crazy with spending money........casino, etc. but since we did get such a great rate, we will have some "funny money" to play around with, while being very careful too!

cruises are a great way to get the most bang for your buck. all your food, entertainment is included.

i would also recommend a travel agent. they know the secrets to great deals, and they get paid by the vendors (ours is)
