Aisle runner outside

Is anyone having an aisle runner on grass? If so, any worries about it getting pierced by heels (being on a soft surface). What material is your aisle runner.

We're having one and it is fabric; we're doing a trial run though with our shoes (bought at 75 foot long runner but only need 50 feet) and see how it goes. We're planning on using stakes and may get these "sole mates" so the heels are a bit bigger. I'm nervous about it, but really want the runner b/c we painted our monogram and I want to prevent grass stains (even though it is outside - have to try!)

I read online about horror stories, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
