Backyard Reception

Hi All,
So I have finally convinced my FI to have a backyard wedding. Just out of curiousity had anyone ever rented a tent? Any reccomendations on who to go through? And how much should I expect to spend??
Thanks!

Re: Backyard Reception

  • It depends how big of a tent. We are renting a 40x60 and they run $700-$800. Some rental places will have packages and will throw in tables, chairs, linens etc. It would be worth while to look into that. Hope this helps

  • That is very helpful thank you. How many ppl are you having?

  • We are having 125 people. We needed a bigger tent to accomodate round tables. Our rental place has a great package with china and lighting. Most places charge for every piece individually, spoon, fork, knife...it gets very expensive!

  • You should cross post this on your local board as well, they may have recommendations for rental companies.  We rented a 40X80 foot tent, but it is also the rain location for the ceremony and dance, so we wanted to have some flexible space.  Our initial guest list was around 196 people, and we're also having round tables.
  • Expect to spend as much as if you were renting a venue. We are getting 2 tents, which total $800. Then renting tables, chairs, dishes and silverware, bar, and buying linens,we're around $800. That's for 50 people.
That doesn't include decor or electricity, lighting, sound etc. Just the bare minimum :)
  • Rentals vary greatly from state to state, and region to region.
    We are either going to get a 20 x20 ($175-200) or a 20 x 40 ($335 - 400.)
Remember to ask about set up/delivery fees, also.
I did a google search for the city of the location and tent rental; I emailed 3 for quotes on all of my rental equipment.  As PP's said, if you are renting tables, chairs, tent, etc, they may give a small discount.
    Good luck!
  • I would post on your local board, too.  I'm just north of Boston and my tent (a 40x60) is closer to $1500.  Price them out and talk to rental companies.  You need to know whether you can have a frame tent or not in your yard, etc.  Good luck!

  • Call your local fire department. We rent a wedding-size large tent, tables, chairs from them every year for a Labor Day party and it's a flat $100.00 for everything.

In my area, a 20'x40' tent is $200. We will need 3 of them. If we wanted to get one tent to fit everyone, it would be $1,500. Look into your options. With the smaller tents, we can put them up ourselves and not have to pay delivery and set up.
