Porta Loo's

Has anyone/ is anyone renting porta loo's for their outdoor wedding? Was it worth it/ a good idea? I am just concerned it will come off like a concert or something (construction site). There are 2 bathrooms at the house we are having the wedding at but it's a cabin in the woods and not on main city lines if that makes any sense. Thanks!

Re: Porta Loo's

  • How many guests are you inviting?

In addition, is this at a relative or friend's house?  Is this person comfortable having several strangers wander through their house all night long?  Personally that would not be my first choice if I was volunteering my home.

  • There are far nicer options than your standard "what is that blue chemical?" port-o-lets.  Many companies offer what's known as a "crowdpleaser" which is basically a mobile bathroom (stalls or urinals, sinks, vanities, the whole 9 yards.)  If I needed a port-o-let at a function, I'd opt for a "crowdpleaser."  Trust me, port-o-let companies aren't going to laugh if you ask, "do you offer crowdpleasers or mobile bathroom options?"
  • We may have to broach this subject as well.

Meeting next week with the owner of our potential venue, which is a bed & breakfast place. They have cabins on site and we are likely renting the largest to use as a suite for the wedding party and would then have use of that restroom, plus there is one available at the main house...80 guests max. - does anyone know how to calculate how many 'thrones' we need based on the number in attendance? Undecided
  • Yes I saw the fancy version of this at a bridal show a month or so ago.  It was a nice all white trailer with steps up to it and 3 doors.  Each door was a nice tiny little bathroom fully equipped with running water and mirrors to check your makeup, etc.  Much nicer than any porta-loo I've ever seen!

  • Slightly off-topic...

If you get regular port-a-potties and the reception goes after dark... figure out a way to keep them lit!  I went to a wedding and it was pretty awkward using a port-a-pottie in a dress in the dark.

I would have never thought of that!

OP, those nice port-a-pots that PPs are talking about are quite pricey but are definitely a step up if you can afford them.

We will have about 40 total guest and the venue is my parents house and they are fine with us using the restrooms. Everyone who will be at the wedding is family of some form.

Thanks everyone I will look into the choices we have, my dad is going to go hunting on the weekend for me so will see what he comes back with. It's a very small town so not sure about choice.

40 guests and your parents are okay with it?  I would skip the port-a-pots then.  Let's face it, normal ones are yucky.  And the nicer ones are expensive!  We have that many people over to grandma's house at Christmas and everyone manages to share the bathrooms just fine.  Good luck!

  • We had to use porta-potties, and because our wedding was in the middle of nowhere there was only one place that was able to deliver them and they only had the horrible blue ones. It was kind of sad. But! When they're clean and new, they aren't so bad. And by the time it got dark, the only people left were our friends who were camping out with us that night. We set out some candles it was no problem. That was just my experience.

That said, go with the nicer ones of you can. Or none at all. Real bathrooms rule.
  • We're in the same boat so we're renting toilets. Most rental sites will give you an idea of how many you need for the size of your group. I'd like to get a crowd pleaser but will probably end up with your standard port a potty so I was thinking of sprucing them up a bit. I figure I'll build some sort of frame around them and drape in some sort of fabric so you can't see them. I'm also going to set up a area with a mirror and table for people to fix their hair and makeup.

  • Just had a long chat with family about this over Easter. We've deicded to rent a wedding trailor instead of the portables. Family was telling stories about how people will barge into other peoples homes because they "don't do portables".

Even though nice wedding portables are available I was concerned that just the sight of them would cause people to barge into my parents house. I want to avoid that as much as possible.

We don't have a choice because the septic system can't handle this number of people.
  • We are getting nice ones! Ours even come with air conditioning and a radio. Depending on the weather everyone might go hangout in the "bathroom" simply because of the AC... LOL! I was nervous at first to since I REFUSE to use a port-a-potty but I did use one of these, which says a lot! If you decide to get one try to get one of the nice ones, your guests will appreciate it.
