Outdoor Weddings

moving from ceremony to reception?

I need some advice. I am having an outdoors wedding, at a friends house, in the field behind his house. Non traditional wedding. The problem I am having is how to transition from the actual ceremony to the reception. It's all going to be in the same area, so after the "kiss the bride" moment, I'm not sure where to go. Do we kiss then move straight to the reception area to have our first dance? How do we make it not awkward for everyone? As a guest, what would you think is neat?

Re: moving from ceremony to reception?

  • I love when the reception immediately follows the reception. I would do a short cocktail hour first- let the guests get up and stretch their legs and get something to drink. You can go finish taking pictures while they do that. Then you could do your first dance.

  • Did you include the info on your invites or are you?  I would include a separate card that tells where the reception will be at afterwards.  Otherwise, people will follow, it won't be that hard to figure out.
  • At the end of our ceremony, champagne is being passed out and my brother is giving a toast.  At the end of the toast, he'll tell everyone to go inside where there is food waiting for them and the enjoy.

  • We are having ours at a local park and we were trying to figure out what to do as well. Since ours is going to be an outside day in the Fall we are going to make an announcement that Apple Cider, Hot Chocolate, and Coffee are being served as an in between while we get some pictures and things together of that sort.

This is what we're planning on too.

Now, as for WHERE on the farm everything is... haven't figured that out yet <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />
