Heels sinking in the grass...

Our wedding ceremony is going to be on a golf course, but the reception is inside the country club in the formal ballroom, so I know women will all be wearing high heels.
I am purchasing something to put on the bottom of my heels to prevent me from sinking in the grass, but does it make sense to buy a bunch of extras and have a basket for guests if they want them?

Re: Heels sinking in the grass...

  • I think it's a great idea for you to get them for yourself, for your guests I'm not sure how you would give them to the women and have them put them on in their formal attire.

I just looked at the prices and the ones I have found are $10 each from
    http://thesolemates.com/our-products/

My big concern is, do you want to spend the money on that, or would you rather spend that money some place else? Do your guests know your ceremony is going to be outside? If I was a guest knowing the ceremony was outside I would def. be wearing different shoes.

IMHO it's a waste of money that can go to something else the guests would enjoy more. But if it's something you want to do, I would be grateful.

  • I think it'd be great for you, and nice to get your bridal party.  As a guest, I don't think it's necessary.  If I know a ceremony is outside, i'm just going to wear shoes I find appropriate.

  •    I am having a plywood walkway down the center aisle and also plywood laid down at the alter so that people heels won't sink and I won't have to worry about it as well. I think buying the things for the bottom of peoples shoes would get expensive fast!

  • Thanks for the opinions!  I think I'll just stick to buying them for me and my 3 bridesmaids.  The guests all know that we will be in the grass for the ceremony, so hopefully they are keeping it in mind when selecting their shoes :)

  • I went to an outside wedding where the reception was indoors.  We all had dirty heels after the ceremony BUT the bride/groom had a decorative box of wet wipes at the entrance table for people to wipe off their heels.  It had a cute, rhyming note card attached to the box that described what the wipes were for and a discreet trash can on the floor by the table.  I wish I could remember the exact wording of the card because it was something that made you smile.  I thought it was a unique, nice and light-hearted way of addressing the issue.  Not sure if something like that would work for you (their wedding was less formal in the first place) but I thought it was a great idea at the time.
  • That sounds like a good idea on the bridesmaids and the bride only. I didnt think about that for my wedding until I red this post! Thanks to Knot.com having these posts, my fellow brides can give me ideas && I hope I help them out as well with mine. I did want to wear heels with mah dress but I might go a different route && go with a more causal look- CONVERSE! <3

this is great because im doing the exact same thing, mines will be in my mother in laws yard and i know personally how soft the grass can be.

Dont worry about the guest because thats apart of reading the invitation and dressing accordingly.<img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />

  • I hate to break it to you, but I've tried the heel guards a few times and not once have they worked. My heels have broken through them and the guards have actually gotten stuck on the heel.  I purchased them at an upscale department store so they were a quality brand. I would test them out on your shoes.
  • i saw this great idea- http://www.hellodefine.com/2011/04/making-love/
it won't really help your guests... BUT it's super cute :-)
