Is a lakeside wedding a smart, inexpensive choice?

I'm trying to choose a venue for my wedding (3/17/12) and I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice about a lakeside wedding.

I've been to a really cute one, but the majority of your expense would be in your reception, so it depends how you plan to coordinate that lakeside. Also, this may limit your potential officiants in a new way. In general, though, yes, inexpensive and naturally beautiful.
  • My fiance and I are having our wedding on a lakeside.  We both love the lake and we actually found a church camp that had an outdoor chapel that was next to the lake.  Very inexpensive since we don't have to rent chairs.  You could try that, but most church camps have regulations you'll have to follow.
  • Thanks you all that was great advice.  And we are located in southwest Georgia (so it's very hot.)  That's the reason we chose March.  That outdoor chapel idea was awesome.. I'll have to check into that!Smile
  • In my case...god no.

I have to rent a tent, and every cup, spoon, platter, etc that goes up there.

Be super careful about that before you head down that route. My rentals tab is 8k.
  • Well the place I was planning to have my reception is a building right next to the lake,  It looks like a log cabin/cottage and it's actually a dining hall with a full bar and tables.  Also, I am a nanny to the woman's kids who own it.. so I'll get a really good deal.
  • We are having a lake wedding Oct ober 9th 2010. We are getting married on a pier and having the reception on the lawn. It hasn't been terribly expensivethe second most expensive thing has been the rentals ($2500.00). Shop around for your rentals!!! And Good Luck!
  • I am getting married lakeside as well.  I am not sure if it is a great idea though.  We have no clue what we will do if it rains.  Any suggestions?
  • I have also considered the rain situation and haven't come up with any solutions.  But I'll sure I'll figure something out (:
