Best time of day for outdoor summer wedding?

We're getting married August 24th, 2014 (Which is on a Sunday). I don't want anyone to be uncomfortable or appear sweaty in pictures, so I know doing it anywhere between 12-3 is a bad idea. We originally liked the idea of getting married in the morning with a lunchtime reception (Our reception will be indoors) but a married friend reminded me of how much time it takes to get hair/makeup done, pick up flowers from the florist, etc before the ceremony & pointed out that a morning wedding may not work out. We don't want to have the wedding too late in the afternoon because most people don't stay out late on Sunday nights with school & work the next morning. I'm still new to all this wedding stuff, so excuse me if I seem clueless - I am! :)

  • First of all, I'm getting married exactly a year before you!

Anyway, what if you started at 5:00? Assuming your ceremony is about 30 minutes you could be eating dinner by 6:00 and people could easily leave by 8 if they wanted or stay and party until 11! Also, just FYI because I just figured this out, the sun sets around 7:45 at that time of year :)

Congratulations! August 24th is the day we started dating, a few years later we happened to get engaged on August 24th, so we figured why not get married on August 24th too? :) As dumb as it sounds, I totally forgot about the sun setting later during that time of year. Thanks so much!
  • We started dating August 12th, so it's kind of close? Actually, the day I called my venue they had just had a cancellation for the 24th and it was the only day available all of 2013. I was too impatient to wait until 2014, so here we are!

We had a morning ceremony and lunch reception and had no problems with time. My bridesmaids even had time to go to the venue and set up. We got up about 6, so yes, that was early but not unreasonably so. Our ceremony started at 10:30. Can your florist not deliver the flowers? Otherwise, I would definitely move it to 5 or later.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • My wedding was at 11 am.  I had the florist drop off flowers. I had time to go to a shop and get my hair done at 8 am.  My makeup was done at home.  The ceremony was 0.5 hours away and we had time for first looks with my fiance and had pictures done with his family.  If you keep things less complicated it makes life easier.
  • Thanks, y'all!
  • I would ask myself these  question:
Are there shaded areas big enough for the ceremony and your guests to have wedding the earlier?
Also, where do you live? I would consider about mosquitos coming out at dusk or even earlier.
Do you live in an area with high humidity?
We married in our backyard in June of last year.We wanted the light to be soft and not too harsh from the overhead sun.
We sat outside a few weeks before we sent the invites out,to get the feel for the evening,as of when to start the ceremony, pictures and the reception.Of course we had to consider that the sunset and the light changes over time, but we googled sunset time for June.Everything turned out perfectly.
    Congratulations

Thank you! You brought up several things I hadn't even thought to consider!
